Total: 16,623,438 +7.1%

International: 6,302,071 +6.2%
Transborder: 3,874,479 +4.5%
Domestic: 6,446,888 +9.7%

Seems like English Canadians are increasingly coming to Montreal for the strip clubs !

But in all seriousness, i agree with craneSpotter: YUL should be handling double the amount of domestic passengers, a la YYC.....

There would be a few reasons for this, just the fact it's close to another Hub that has better flights in Toronto, many people jut transfer there vs Montreal.

Quebcers per capital fly some of the least in this country, and it really falls domestically comparatively speaking. While they fly internationally at some of the highest rates in this country.

Montreal is also drivable/trainable to many big cities around it, Vancouver you pretty much have to fly to most other big cities or do a long drive. Calgary to Vancouver drive is tough in the winters. Montreal to Ottawa/Toronto/Quebec City/Boston is pretty easy most of the year.

It's so archaic, and such a pain in the ass to have to carry something to do during taxi, takeoff and landing.

They've got decent service, but until they do something about this rule (and I'm not holding my breath - Chinese government regulations take a long time to change) I'll never choose a Chinese airline to fly internationally.

Ugh I know, I flew Air China YVR-PEK last year and I was shocked when they asked me to put my phone away mid flight when it was in airplane mode. Yet I could have an ipad... What sense does that make?

OTher than that the flight was good though; new airplane, passable food and decent in-flight entertainment and service.

It seems as though not all Canadian carriers are on board with the NAVCAN regulations though. I flew to HUX on Air Transat over Christmas and they still have you put your phone away for the first and last 45 minutes, regardless of airplane mode. But then again AT is stuck in the past in more ways than just this, what an awful flight.

This. I actually hadn't flown lots of Chinese carriers before, and when they asked me to turn off my phone I thought it was an individual airline policy. Apparently not...

Halifax Stanfield Makes History in 2016

POSTED ON JANUARY 26, 2017

Halifax Stanfield served 3,908,799 passengers in 2016, making it the busiest year in the airport’s history.

“We had a tremendously successful year thanks to our passengers and to the support of our entire airport community, as well as government and stakeholders,” says Joyce Carter, HIAA President & CEO.

Compared to the previous year, our 2016 passenger numbers were up 5.6%. We are set to hit four million passengers in 2017 and we look forward to achieving this milestone.

The largest segment of air service traffic was in the domestic sector. Domestic traffic represented about 84% of all traffic and was up by 7.4% over 2015 (3,268,485 passengers). Contributing to this strong increase: WestJet’s four times weekly summer service to Winnipeg and Vancouver, WestJet Encore’s full year of operation with six additional daily flights, the launch of NewLeaf service to Hamilton, and Air Canada adding seat capacity to Montreal and Toronto.

I posted this in the YVR thread, but YYZ-YYJ will now be Air Canada Rouge, with daily a daily A321 and a daily 763.

jmt18325 Jan 26, 2017 8:57 PM

Winnipeg now has it's final numbers for the year up - 4,015,200. Domestic and international traffic were at the highest level ever. Transborder traffic was the worst it's been since 2005:

Sorry, does transborder refer to US bound flight and international mean flights to all other international countries?

That's correct.

Westjet is removing their YVR-YHZ and YWG-YHZ flights?

They're gone from all the wiki pages so I assume they're gone from the schedule.

It's still showing on the YHZ and YVR wiki pages - the flights from YHZ to YVR/YWG are seasonal.

Maybe just Winnipeg is gone? Not sure where he info came from, but I just heard it enough times I thought it must be true.

Sigh

Please don't think wiki is always accurate.

A simple check on Westjet's online timetable shows no direct YHZ to YVR or YWG this summer... Not too hard to check everyone....

I'll make it easy for you... Here's the link....

I was on my phone at work and working from memory...sheesh give a guy a break.

jmt18325 Jan 28, 2017 1:01 AM

BTW, it's back on the YWG facebook page. It was gone, IIRC.

Johnny Aussie Jan 28, 2017 2:35 AM

Sorry my comment wasn't directed at you.

Just a simple check of facts (not "alternative facts" - wiki) before posting is a good idea for anyone.

zahav Jan 28, 2017 7:32 PM

Last year, Westjet added YVR-YHM (3 weekly), YVR-YXU (4 weekly), and YVR-YHZ (4 weekly). This summer they have ditched YHZ and YXU altogether, but converted YHM to daily service. So YHM takes over over the YXU flights essentially, but the YHZ flights are gone. Not sure about YWG or other cities with routes gains/losses

jmt18325 Jan 28, 2017 7:56 PM

Winnipeg lost YHZ and got YHM.

G.S MTL Jan 28, 2017 7:58 PM

YYC total 2016 15,680,616 +1.3%

December saw a -0.3% decrease.
