I love Tower Verre but this to me is the most striking and New York'y addition to the skyline in decades. It's modern, elegant, but somehow recalls New York's deco past.

Verre was strikingly beautiful until they beheaded her.

It's still strikingly beautiful just 200 feet shorter, yea 1,250 would have been great but I'm still excited to see it rise regardless.

You would have thought that with monsters rising all around it at higher heights they could have fought for their 200 feet back... ridiculous.

But alas it's U/C and NY will have tons of buildings that high and higher soon enough :)

Definitely my two favorites going up in the city right now. Of course, there are more that we haven't seen yet.

What happened to the diagram for this (along with others)?

This is the most beautiful building I have ever seen in my life.

I'd give both my nuts to live in this masterpiece... as long as I'm allowed to bring my Great Danes. Wow..... takes a lot for me to be impressed but I can't wait to see this baby rise. Spectacular addition to Manhattan's skyline. Envious of those who get to call this address home.

I agree that she's still a uniquely beautiful building, but I just feel it's not living up to it's full potential, but I won't lament about it anymore.

BTW, is this what it will actually look like from this angle, because that's incredible http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...3rd_Street.jpg

Hey, anyone remember when One57 was considered the behemoth of 57th Street, dangling crane and all?...

You're right, who would've thought that One57 would be dwarfed on both sides..

Stern to Unions: You’re Done in This Town

https://nyocommercialobserver.files....pg?w=615&h=525

JAMES KING
5/12/2015

Quote:

“I like what Michael Stern is doing and I want to figure out how to build more projects non-union.”

That’s what developer Bruce Eichner told the crowd at the Bisnow Multifamily Summit in March, with a smirking Mr. Stern, the young founder of JDS Development, sitting a few seats away.
As Mr. Eichner continued to gush over Mr. Stern’s well-publicized contempt for union labor, a heckler from the Building and Construction Council butted in.

“Boo…wrong!” the man yelled from the crowd before laying into the developers on the stage. “What about the people who build this city?” he asked. “What about the people that live in this city, that make up the city?”

Mr. Stern looked on disinterestedly—arrogantly—from the stage, seemingly unfazed by the exchange between the angry union worker and his well-dressed colleagues.

Maybe he didn’t care because he’d heard it before. Or maybe he did care. Maybe he was masking the fact that he was secretly thrilled that the message he’d been sending for the past year or so was being received loud and clear. His fellow developers, like Mr. Eichner, like what they’re hearing. They’re defending him. And they are already thinking of ways to go around the unions in the future.

Maybe organized labor should be scared of Michael Stern. This is war. The unions understand that Mr. Stern is their Waterloo.

It’s no secret that Mr. Stern, a 35-year-old newcomer to the New York City real estate business, puffs out his chest and thumbs his nose at the unions. He’s been portrayed in the press for the past year as an anti-union pioneer who is standing up to inefficient union bullies and who could potentially change the union culture of construction projects in New York City. Mr. Stern was recently named one of Crain’s New York Business “40 Under 40.” In its brief profile of the young developer, the publication lauded Mr. Stern for “turning the construction industry on its head.”

^ If only we could reduce construction costs in NYC. Skyscrapers and supertalls would pop up everywhere ...

chris08876 May 12, 2015 9:07 PM

^^^

That's why I'm betting on the outer boroughs to be the next hotspots for them. What they city needs is a transit overhaul to increase capacity, and you will see the supertalls rise in the near future. Plus, for sake of aesthetics, I think the skyscraper wave needs to ride east into Queens/Brooklyn. Time to turn that place into a Kowloon. :D

Its still expensive, but not as much as let's say building in Midtown East or North. I'm hoping as more talent chooses DoBro and its proxies to live in, that companies would consider leasing in a future supertall there.
