DELHI

Part 5 covers my brief stay in Delhi, the capital of India and the centre of government and finance. I was quite surprised by some of the modernity of Delhi, but photographically I enjoyed the older parts of Delhi which were far more typical Indian hustle and bustle. Actually I would go so far to say the streets of Old Delhi were the craziest and most intense of anywhere I have ever been. Despite much of India’s new developments, my father assured me the Old Delhi now is no different to how it was back in the ‘70s!

It was crazy, hot, intense. In the space of 10 mins I witnessed a typical Indian mob like crowd at the aftermath of a shooting, and two men smoking heroin on the street in broad daylight! It was an interesting place to say the least.

Despite the wildness of the streets, I found that the cities mosques offered oasis’ of peaceful tranquility. In particular I loved the Jama Masjid, and spent a while there….so there are a lot of pictures from within the mosque complex included…maybe too many, but nevermind.

Thanks for this amazing post. Wonderful pictures. India is such an interesting and vibrant country. I encourage everyone to at least visit once. It is such a different world. One of things I like about India it never bores me. There is always something happening.
I encourage you to venture even more North, into the states of Haryana, Punjab, and into the Himalayan foothills.

It's like trying to do Europe all at once. When you think about it, South Asia has just as much of a claim (if not greater) to the status of "continent."

Well it is a "sub-continent".
