Not often planted on roof decks. Also, see the felled trees from the derecho this past Summer -- one sailing down from ~1,000 ft. up could be deadly.

On the mountains those trees are exposed to wind on one side, not all four as in St Regis' blow-thru floor (wind exposure is why ridgelines are often bare). And they live in real soil and get real rain, not some pipsqueak planter box with a drip irrigation system.

it says it's a December 2020 rendering but I believe that's the old scheme for the Equinox... won't it be 2 towers and slightly shorter?

Thought it looked familiar, guess we can disregard that. I think it's currently a 550 and 250 foot buildings but I'm not sure the status on it.

hopefully our turn for a SHoP project will be a 1200ft+ thompson center redevelopment... they're on a streak with proposals in Rotterdam (722') and Toronto (1017')

A long while ago I was hoping with their experience designing tall buildings that integrate with existing historical structures that SHoP might be tapped for the hotel addition to the Reid Murdoch Building. But it seems that ship has sailed.

I'd love to see a SHoP project here. They were OPC finalist, but I don't think they've built anything in Chicago.

The Shops at Big Deahl, LLC, for the property generally located at 1465-1483 N. Kingsbury St./835-919 W. Blackhawk St./1450-1472 N. Dayton St. The applicant proposes to amend Planned Development 1292 to rezone the property to C2-5 prior to re-establishing Residential-Business Planned Development 1292, as amended the proposal will include five subareas with four structures and open space. Subarea A will consist of a 27-story (299 ft.), 327 dwelling unit building with retail and 110 parking spaces. Subarea B will consist of a 5-story (64 ft.), 36 dwelling unit building with 36 parking spaces. Subarea C will consist of a 10-story (117 ft.), 126 dwelling unit, group living classified as co-living building (max. 432 beds) with 41 parking spaces.

oof - design on Building A is bleak. Not a big fan of the stepped/rotated building sections on some modern highrise designs... the old 1000M proposal was the best I've seen and the verticality of the building helped there. The contemporary facade and slew of materials on this already look dated. I guess I like the rust color against the gray/black buildings in the plan and the existing black/glass buildings nearby, but could be achieved with a tall brick highrise... actually wouldn't mind seeing some "Fultonization" here

^^It's much better than building C. Building C feels like they weren't even trying. I can already see the cement panels on it feeling weathered in 2 years. It'll look horrible.

It does that but there is also a whole 33-unit townhouse development planned for Harrison and Francisco on the West Side that will satisfy this project's affordable requirements.

^that turned out nice. I haven’t been by there in awhile, but I like how the building looks from the Kennedy.

The wider sidewalks are nice. Halsted is too important a street to have those narrow-ass sidewalks.
