You would think they would have proposals at least as good as the glassy towers that have been up in Marina Del Rey for what 14 years now? How about The Vermont in Koreatown looks like a solid midrise type development that at least looks 21 century. Please go back to the drawing board with something taller and of more substance.

I agree. That residential building needs a fresh new design that isn't so bland and hopefully some additional height as well.

I wouldn't mind the design if it weren't one of the only places on the coast that high rises are permitted...definitely does not say "world class" as CV or the developer has touted. Also does not look very walkable.

On the plus side, this is not the largest building in this project, and this accounts for only about 15% of the 1500 units planned for this overall project. Also, this building is 14 floors, only a couple floors less than the towers in Marina Del Rey. The hotel tower will be quite a bit taller.

The CV Bayfront is starting to sound very underwhelming. This is the last chance to build vertically along the CA coast on any kind of grand scale and they are only proposing 1500 housing units? Civita is almost 5000! The article said the bayfront is 550 acres I'm sure that includes the Marina parking and RV lots etc plus the obligatory"Open Space" every SD project must have.

But still there should be 150 acres left for residential and all we are going to get is 1500 units that is sad...

SDFAN: You must be mad that Makers Quarter at 5 city blocks will only include 2.5 million sq feet of development. That is very paltry for 5 whole blocks. I was thinking at least 4 million square feet.

I believe it's Lane Field. It's north of Broadway, east/close to PH.

The old gas station and little motel on 11th and B is fenced off now. Does anyone have an idea what the timeline for that project might be?

So I came across something not really development related, but related in that it reflects attitudes and issues we face as proponents of urban development in SD.

After hering that the organizers of America's Cup are making demands for free hotel rooms n return for holding the event in SD, I decided to look into what concessions SF and other hosts had made when the America's Cup was held in their cities.

I read an article in the SF Gate (the bay area's newspaper) about the cup trying to pull the race out of SF unless demands were met (this was much earlier in the year). When I read the comments section, I found that the commenters sound just like SD-UT commenters in their close minded-ness and vitriol. Upon reading these comments I actually felt better about our own city, realizing that the challenges we face with the general public (or at least the snarky newspaper commenters) exist elsewhere in an equally large supply.

(Regarding the specific article, I'm not trying to suggest a position on the issue, just trying to share what I learned.)

Thanks for sharing Spoon ^^ Regarding Cranes in the air we are getting pretty far along in to 2014 and there is no activity on Ballpark Village, 11th and Broadway, Blue Sky, and Bosa Pac Hwy.... Has anyone heard what is the holdup on these major projects? As Leo said there is activity but I was expecting there to be more by August 2014. All of the towers I listed were scheduled to break ground this year.

Not sure where those projects stand, Mellow. Hope they move forward ASAP. They are definitely high profile.

Driving on the 15 South today I noticed the new Kaiser Hospital under construction in Kearny Mesa. The tower and parking structure aren't all that tall, but we're highly visible from the fwy. Looked like the project was about topped out. This is a very nice addition to KM and the surrounding area.

Interesting rendering. I don't hate it, it doesn't blow me away but there are things about it I like. I agree the downsizing in sq ft is disappointing. I think part of it is the background and foreground make it look like it's in a non-urban area. At first I thought the entrance area was using that jagged stone which a lot of suburban buildings use to give them a "rustic" look, but I think it's just brick. I guess I would need to see more angles/more renderings.

Mehhhhhhh. The East Village is turning into such a disappointment. But time will tell, there may be more market demand to increase the square footage as the decade goes on.

With regards to Chula Vista, they can build up to 300ft, I believe. It's not going to be a very overwhelming project, but I'll take it over what they have now.

At least its not a stadium... :notacrook:

The Segal project looks nice. It is nice to have people like him building in North Park.

I just read something that said Blue Sky will begin excavation soon. There was some sort of issue that had to be addressed after site clearing. :tup:
