Bvic as always amazing but that fourth just shows how sexy this will be. C'mon vista, give the same curvage.

Bombardier Nov 22, 2018 1:30 PM

I think this turned out nice, but it is the slowest progressing project in the area. It started the same time as Essex roughly and on that project the crane is down, hoist is down, and hoist bay glass is installed. It will be nice to see these two and Essex opened to the public next year. Essex is expecting their first renters in march, anyone know when this one will open?

Great addition to the city! Looks good from all angles especially from the south west, it adds another layer to the south loop peak!

It really does, especially from the SW:

Tower crane looks to be most of the way down

SIGSEGV Dec 7, 2018 8:03 PM

Michigan Ave was closed off for a bit last night while they removed the crane.

This one really looks great. Some nice touches really make it stand out. To the cheap builders who want to put up value engineered cookie cutter design boxes all over the city, shame on them. They show no respect for Chicago and are only concerned with their pocketbooks. They need to do a little something extra to stand out from the crowd just like they do in NYC.

I think the NY developers probably are just as concerned with their pocketbooks. It looks different in NY because it's a more competitive landscape.

This is one of those blue glass towers that manages to remain unique despite not bucking the trend. I love how it turned out

This is a very handsome tower...

^Indeed it is. And depending on the angle, we kind of got two towers out of the deal.

Wonder what the bracing is for up there. Hope they light that at night...

According to the picture they have on their web site it looks like the might: http://theparagonchicago.com/wp-cont...2/building.jpg

Plus, they're calling themselves a "beacon of possibilities." How can they be a beacon without a giant fucking light at the top?

Don't worry, they'll add the de rigueur color-changing LED spot lights before you can say "ugh".

mousquet Jan 9, 2019 5:10 PM

I find this thing to be very fine.

I don't even care about height when it gets to this glass and design quality.

Diamonds as 'arêtes' (Fr term for edges in geometry) are a subtle gem making up the building.

People on the spot will enjoy it, no doubt.

I hate to be greedy, but can anyone get a good shot of the base of this one from the street? This is like 90% great so far and I have held out hope the base is just as good.

Sorry to be late to the party, go ahead and laugh, but what are the two low rise parts of this tower to the north and south? Are they apartments as well? Amenity floors? Or are they buisness/parking?

I think its hiding the parking garage. The concrete on the sides looks like the structure of a parking garage

A celebration of the automobile.

the urban politician Jun 8, 2019 12:59 PM

This one turned out nice. It’s also one of the less oppressive above ground podiums you’re gonna see

If every base could be this well hidden I don't even know if we'd complain that much about parking heavy podiums

SamInTheLoop Jun 9, 2019 2:39 AM

So, this one turned out great. No question about it.

The only thing that tends to rub me the wrong way about it is I’ve always felt it would be better oriented with wider face along the N-S axis (I think that’s my take because there are a couple too many towers in the in the immediate vicinity oriented E-W). That was actually the original design, pre-formal proposal, as I recall someone from SCB describing in the media a few years back. As recounted, they re-oriented to not overwhelm and darken Michigan Ave. Meh. I didn’t quite buy into their concerns, and still don’t.

This is but a quibble I suppose.

Strong work.

gandalf612 Jun 10, 2019 6:27 AM

This is kind of disappointing IMO, and I know it's not a great picture, but it appears that only the eastern side of the crown will be lit up.

A side note; I have much more positive feelings about One Museum Park and its tacky lighting when it caters to me specifically and lights up for Pride month.

This image also shows a "trick" that the Paragon has. I read an article recently (either in REJournals or Curbed) about the many technological amenities that the building has and one of them was the ability for building managers to turn on random lights in unleased rooms to give the building the appearance of activity.

Sneaky, and probably not very energy efficient, but it makes for a charming skyline addition ahead of schedule.

BonoboZill4 Jun 11, 2019 12:15 AM

Don't be concerned. I've seen the full crown lit up a few times. Probably just fixing something

Yeah I distinctly remember seeing the crown lit from the TJ's parking lot, which would have been the north face. I'm sure the whole thing will light... with the diagonal bracing and the color of the glazing/color of the light, it reminds me a lot of 7WTC.
