Also of note, the Stubborn Goat is rebuilding their beer garden. I've not seen plans but the way its been described sounds nice. |
First bit of Sandstone has gone up!

The sea bridge is back in for what I presume is its final season and I am happy to see that the stairs leading into the water from the central public area are being installed. I had heard, that they had been cut from the design.

The glass looks top notch. Fits perfectly into the waterfront.

I checked out the sea bridge before hopping the ferry this morning. The building looks really good from the water.
I find the glass looks way too blue currently, but I think that will be tempered once the copper goes in. The stone is looking good so far. Also, the walk down Lower Water is much nicer now that that side has most of its cladding. The sloped wall really helps that side not feel claustrophobic. |
I feel like the glass might still have a protective film on the inside. Everything just looks so blue when you look through it.

There was some (what appeared to be) aluminum going up yesterday on the North side. I assume the 'oxidized' exterior finish will go over top of this? https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...24be1979_b.jpg |

By the rendering, it looks like there will be a thin strip of accent lighting approximately at that level.

As a side note, one wonders why the Maritime Museum hasn't bothered to change their March Break sign. We are almost into June. Close enough for government work I suppose. :uhh: |
Actually, I was considering your comments when I was walking through, trying to get a feel for it.
And actually, when on the sidewalk, I was not left with the impression of it being tight or claustrophobic as such. I think the fact that some of the features slope back as height increases eases that closed-in feeling. I was left with the impression that this will be a nice addition when finished. I did notice that all the glass has a bluish hue to it (exaggerated by the rare blue-sky reflection), whereas in the rendering it seemed to take on a copper hue... https://i.imgur.com/M99VehV.jpg I'm assuming it was a conscious design change for some reason? |
My impression was that they would add a copper screen over the glass cladding.
Buildings "loom" more when they're under construction when they're complete. But also I don't think it's bad for Lower Water to feel hemmed in since the waterfront is a block away. Most of Lower Water suffers from being too open and poorly defined due to empty lots and building setbacks. |

When the bike lane is put in Lower Water drivers will not be able to turn left at Prince and will be trapped in busy periods i.e. most of the time.
