^One57 looks so short in these photos! Hard to believe that it was NYC's tallest residential building just 6 years ago.

Bear in mind that 111 W57's crown is basically nearly 300' of steel framing and concrete mechanical floors which account for a large chunk of its extra height far above it's top residential floor. 432 Park Avenue's Penthouse still looks down on 111's highest residence. And with that in mind, that top floor residence isn't significantly higher than One57 afterall.

The roof is 1257' and the tip is 1428'

More like 171', not too bad as far as vanity height goes, not compared to some other modern buildings.

Residences aside, the building still towers over One57, which is what we will look at when we look at the skyline. I remember when One57 was being built, and there was a crane dangling off of the top of the building. It looked as high as anything, but now, a few years later, it wouldn't have registered as much.

The highest residential floor has an elevation of 1,149' which is significantly less impressive than what the top of the crown's 1,428' height would suggest. Although those of us looking up at this building from the outside will be impressed, the actual buyers for whom it was built, may not be pleased that other residents nearby are still looking down on them. And by that measure, the sales (or lack thereof) are what will determine whether or not the project is a success.

You obviously don't know what the people who are the target of a building like this are seeking. It's not to have the "highest apartment", but to have great views and a modern, luxury home in a great location.

You obviously don't know much about what you're talking about. But all you have to do is look at 220 Central Park South, and the sales there, along with the prices, and you would know just how wrong you are.

The diagonal pieces of terracotta and glass on the terraces are part of how the building deals with wind shear; the continuously set back terraces, I understand, are the main design element breaking up wind vortices and mitigating building sway, along with the TMD. When I first noticed the diagonal elements I thought how nice, Art Deco design:)

Compare and contrast with 432 Park's voids and CPT's chamfered corners. Very artfully done and the developer can market apartments with outdoor space to boot. I love this building. And now we get to watch Stern's 9 DeKalb rise. Good times.
