I saw a segment about that on the news last night. Even the reporter managed to excoriate SCRUB ... er, I mean Scenic Philadelphia ... for being completely out of touch. How do they have any credibility anymore anyway?

PREIT has put up scrims over the crappy retail frontage it owns on the 1000 block of market. Not sure if they are doing renovations behind those screens or if its strictly for advertising. Just saw it today.

Interesting news in this article about the relocation of the Frank Rizzo statue:

Quote:

In announcing the relocation of the Rizzo statue, Managing Director Michael DiBerardinis said Thomas Paine Plaza – its current location – will undergo a renovation similar to those that have occurred at Dilworth Plaza and LOVE Park.

"This decision comes at a time when we have begun the preliminary stages of planning to re-envision Paine Plaza as a new type of inviting and engaging public space," DiBerardinis said in a statement. "We are working to plan and create a public space more in line with neighboring Dilworth Plaza and the soon-to-be-unveiled LOVE Park."

South Philly shopping center owner buys more land near retail strip slated for redevelopment

Quote:

Retail landlord Cedar Realty Trust has acquired an Oregon Avenue strip-mall-and-office property about a half block from its South Philadelphia Shopping Center, which is slated for redevelopment.

The parcel — home to shops including a pretzel store and a pizzeria, as well as a medical office building — is to the east of Cedar’s ShopRite-anchored South Philadelphia center, with a non-Cedar-owned retail property between them.

Cedar operations chief Robin Zeigler did not immediately respond to a phone message asking about plans for the newly acquired parcel.

The company, which owns shopping centers across Pennsylvania and other eastern states, earlier this year disclosed plans to combine the South Philadelphia center with its adjacent Quartermaster Plaza into a renovated enclave of shops, homes and offices to be called South Quarter Crossing.

Cedar is also planning to redevelop its Port Richmond Village shopping center at Aramingo Avenue and York Street, Zeigler said Thursday during a conference call with analysts.

Great news. There is too much open space in this area though. I hope some of the space on the eastern edge is developed, during the renovation process.

Anyone know what's going up on north broad? It's an existing building that they've added about 3 floors of steel to and it seems like they're going to keep going up.
