People are going to think that 220 has been there since the 30s.

I think so too. Almost like a 30's tower that has had a nice facade treatment and window washing.

You know what tower has blended seamlessly into the urban fabric, 99 Church aka 30 Park Place. I bet we all forgot about that one. In fact, I bet we look at shots of 3 WTC, and completely miss 30 Park which is right near it. That's how covert its been. It appears like its always been there to the point that it becomes skyscraper "white noise".

I can’t believe how short One57 is going to look.

I guess in hindsight, it wouldn't really matter if your a billionaire and dropped all that money in a unit within One57. Can always sell it, and even if you take a loss, whats that compared to a billion plus?

But I'm referring to the investment aspect of it. One57 at one point was the top dog, the godfather of 57th St if you will, and now, much better investments are rising. Invest one day, fine, but a year later, a much better proposition might pop up.

Obnoxious variegated glass outcome aside, that second pic of One57 really is stunning.

So I is the first one. The south side of the building is pretty great. The north side is trash.

The new supertalls are fine, but there is much more to New York than that.

“Limestone Jesus” 15 CPW is New York’s top-performing condo tower: report

Quote:

The best performing condominium project in New York City isn’t a glossy new development — it’s two decade-old towers, according to a new report.

...Gabby Warshawer, research director at CityRealty, noted that this is the first time that the Robert A.M. Stern-designed building could be included in the ranking by price growth, since it’s now seen 10 years of closings.

“It’s surprising, but I guess it’s just a testament to how attractive that building continues to be to investors,” she said. “The appreciation is much more than other buildings.”

By average price per square foot, 15 CPW also beat out newer projects including Macklowe Properties and CIM Group’s 432 Park Avenue and Extell Development’s One57.

How far above the crane in those pics is she gonna be, ya think?

I don't think she's hit 1000' even yet.

One57 is over 1,000 ft, and it's already a good distance behind. Just add half of One57's height on top for a visual. Roughly the same thing for Steinway.

I haven't been overly excited about the design of this tower, however I feel like the height and the cantilever make it pretty spectacular to see in person. I actually like how the volumes of the cantilevered tower and the base portion engage one another, which makes for a pretty compelling massing. It's a unique building.

Am I the only one who thinks the glass looks like absolute shit? This building is turning out much worse than I thought it would. Outside of its absurd height, it has very few redeeming qualities.

BoM Trespasser Jun 11, 2018 12:06 AM

We won't be able to know what the glass looks like until the protective film is removed.
