  1. Not enough space to accommodate a large stadium along with the infrastructure necessary as the property is extremely landlocked.
  2. An active railroad line cuts right between the Fairgrounds and the Coke property. Removing and rerouting it would be cost prohibitive since the tracks are privately owned and maintained by the railroad operator.
  3. Southern Ave & Hollywood St would have to be widened, but right-of-way would need to be acquired to make that possible with traffic already a nightmare as it is on game days.
IMO, I think the old Coke property will likely be used for some kind of residential/mixed use development down the road as part of a longer-term plan for the Fairgrounds area along with what had already been proposed by the city.

I can c a mixed use concept for coke property since the city is all in in the your sports IMO they should be pursuing blue cross bowl as another way of activating LB and bring tourists and revenue to fairgrounds

Airport lands a new flight, and it’s a big one
By Wayne Risher/ The Daily Memphian

Quote:

With Southwest Airlines beginning service to Atlanta this weekend, Delta Air Lines has just made a big announcement of its own. The airline announced Friday, March 6, it would launch daily nonstop service between Memphis International Airport and Boston Logan International Airport, beginning in October. “This will be one of MEM’s most well-received flight additions of the past few years,” said Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority chair Pace Cooper. “We’re very excited that Delta is once again growing in Memphis to serve the needs of our community.” Though it once offered nonstop service between the Bluff City and Boston, Delta discontinued the flight in early 2014. The airport has been actively lobbying for nonstop service for Boston for the past few years. The desire for such service was heightened when Boston-based Indigo Ag announced in 2017 it would establish its North American commercial operations headquarters in Memphis and hire up to 700 employees here. There already was substantial demand for a Boston nonstop, from FedEx, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and others, even before Indigo Ag became a factor, Cooper said.

Viking sets April 7 reveal of U.S. cruises, expected to include Memphis
By Wayne Risher/ The Daily Memphian

Quote:

The logic behind a proposed upgrade of Beale Street Landing becomes clearer with new signals about Viking’s plans to begin Mississippi River cruising in 2022. The Norway-based line of river and ocean cruises has been talking to dock owners up and down the Mississippi, including operators of Beale Street Landing, about docking agreements... Beale Street Landing currently serves the American Queen Steamboat Company and American Cruise Lines, which are slated to have seven ships docking in Memphis after each company adds a ship this year. The partnership recently asked a City Council construction budget committee for a $3.5 million appropriation to upgrade Beale Street Landing. Some of the improvements would help it handle more overnight cruise ships.

I claim Memphis as my hometown even though it was actually Byhalia and I went to HS in Olive Branch. They really need a supertall. But as far as development, what happened with the Mall of Memphis was a shame. Back in the early 80s, that was the place to be. Then the crime and Wolfchase kinda killed it off.

The Mall of Memphis fate was sealed way before Wolfchase. It was sealed along with Hickory Ridge and Raliegh Springs with the massive white flight in the mid 90s.

I wish the Mall still stood. Something tells me it could have converted to office space, city services or something to keep some nostalgia in the area. Kinda like the Hickory Ridge Mall thats operating under World Overcomers Church. The land below it must have had more value vacant, being right near 1-40

Two things i noticed, The CA interview with Mary Claire Borys stated that Texas-based Cinergy Entertainment will not be a part of the project. That IMO opent the door for Topgolf to be on the grounds of Liberty Park. 2) I noticed the coca cola plant adjacent to Liberty park is no longer showing on JLL power search, hmmm wonder if the city of memphis has purchased the property. That 17 acres could be a huge asset. Possible new Stadium RR not with standing. Build a land bridge to connect. IMO
