Probably not many. There's still not even a rendering on site. Contrasts that with One Vanderbilt or 111 W. 57th (towers the majority still don't know much about).
For the casual passerby, you can at least see a picture of what's going up on those sites without looking too hard.

Central Park Tower: Midtown's Future Tallest Skyscraper Gets Fluted Glass Curtain Wall
March 24, 2017
Quote:

Extell Development’s Central Park Tower is slowly making its way to its throne as Midtown Manhattan’s skyline king. Come 2019, the 1,550-foot tall skyscraper will have the highest roofline in the Western Hemisphere and will be among the most complex private developments undertaken in New York City history. Conceived by the city’s most heroic high-rise builder, Gary Barnett, the $2.98 billion project will be anchored by a 285,000-square-foot Nordstrom department store that will spread onto three other adjacent properties on Broadway between West 57th Street and West 58th Street. Above the seven-floor flagship store will be a five-story hotel and above that 80 floors (real floors, not Trump floors) of residential condominiums with glorious views of the city.

ok -- you can see it clearly from central park now -- that is a milestone to it getting some notice.

Extell is still trying to get the rest of financing ($900mln) which would explain tower's slow progress.

Extell secures $168M in EB-5 funds for Central Park Tower; project’s completion date pushed back.

In a call to Israeli bondholders Wednesday, Extell Development’s Gary Barnett reported that his firm had secured $168 million in EB-5 funds for Central Park Tower, the supertall condominium project set to rise on Billionaires’ Row.

Up to $340 million in EB-5 funds may be raised for the 95-story tower at 225 West 57th Street, Extell’s filings on the Israeli stock exchange show. The $168 million brings Barnett one step closer to procuring the $1.2 billion needed to complete the project. According to an agreement with Shanghai Municipal Investment, which invested $300 million in the project in May, Barnett must procure the funding by December 2017. Extell is still searching for a $900 million construction loan.

Since 2014, Extell has spent $939 million on the tower in construction, acquisition, and financing costs, close to $300 million of which were incurred in 2016, the filings show. The $4.4 billion sellout remains unchanged, while the completion date has been pushed back a year to November 2020, according to the year-end report.

The seven-story Nordstrom store at the base of the building is now complete, and construction has started on the residential floors above. Nordstrom’s contribution to the project increased to $426 million from $394 million, of which the retailer has paid $201 million. Nordstrom retains a put option on its investment if the store is not delivered by December 2018.

Central Park Tower’s condos will hit the market in 2017
Calling all millionaires: Residency is slated for the second half of 2019

Central Park Tower will launch sales in the second half of 2017, if all goes according to plan. A spokesperson for Extell confirmed to Curbed that the city’s forthcoming tallest residential building is expected to get approval for its $4.4 billion offering plan from the Attorney General in the next few months, with sales to follow soon after.

Closings, and at that, residency, are slated to begin in the second half of 2019. In a Wednesday call with foreign investors cited by The Real Deal, Extell CEO Gary Barnett announced that the building will be wholly completed—1,550 feet and all—in 2020.

I'm okay with it taking some extra time as long as it reaches 1,550' and isn't capped off at some unimpressive height.

Aside from the height I also dig the design of this building, it's simple but the cantilever is very unique for something of this massive size.

As I said sometime last year, don't be surprised if a spire appears during construction like they did when the Empire State Building was competing with the Chrysler for the title of tallest. :P

The competition wasn't between The Empire State and the Chrysler, but between the Chrysler and 40 Wall Street.

CCs77 Apr 13, 2017 3:46 PM

In this picture you can see they've built 2 floors above the cantilever already (could be three, but I think the first floor, bellow the yellow scaffolding, is part of the two or three levels belonging to the structure for the cantilever)
