They have insurance out the wazoo for situations such as this and most undoubtedly required by the city and the client to mitigate liability.

Somehow I missed that rendering on HAIF. That is a bigger development that I thought. It's almost more of a high rise than a mid rise, not sure what the official cut-off is to be called one or the other. It's going to definitely stand out as a tall building. Also there is starting to be some serious density in that immediate area. Assuming COVID doesn't cause cities to be emptied out forever or some other doomsday scenario, I suspect that one day Midtown could leap over West Campus in Austin to become the most urban in Texas, IMO.

Houston OKs plan to let downtown bars, restaurants along Main to serve food and drinks in the street

City Council on Wednesday approved, after some delay, plans for the More Space Main Street program which would close the road to automobiles and allow bars and restaurants to create outdoor seating spaces in the street.

If all goes well, revelers willing to head out could celebrate some Christmas cheer on the road.

The program, which city officials approved as a pilot until March 2022, includes possibly closing Main downtown from Commerce to Rusk, depending on which businesses seek to participate. Rules and regulations for the areas bars and restaurants could carve out on the street are being developed by officials across several city departments, including planning, public works, police, fire and the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities.

Sort of creating a mini 6th St, like Austin, where they shut down the road to allow more pedestrian use. Hopefully they can get this rolled out sooner than later, downtown houston was blowing up. Appears to be about 6 blocks...

Houston-based apartment developer Hanover Co. aims to deliver the initial phase of its most ambitious project yet on a 14-acre parcel along the western edge of Buffalo Bayou Park in fall 2021.

The company, which has developed more than 60,000 apartment units across the U.S. over the last four decades, and financial partner Houston-based Lionstone Investments today unveiled an urban village called Autry Park at the gateway to the River Oaks and Montrose neighborhoods. The project, which pulls from the natural landscape of Buffalo Bayou Park and will serve as an amenity for park goers, will bring apartment buildings, restaurants, shops and retail services to the site.

“We anticipate the desire to live across the street from one of Houston’s most treasured park spaces in the middle of a vibrant retail development adjacent to some of Houston’s best neighborhoods is going to be something greatly desired by renters and retailers,” said David Ott, development partner for Texas at Hanover Co.

Autry Park, named for the small city park it surrounds, will consist of five towers totalling 1,450 residential units, 350,000 square feet of office space and 100,000 square feet of retail space and a hospitality component. Phase 1, which broke ground at the end of 2019, will bring two multifamily and retail buildings totaling 750 units and 50,000 square feet of retail space amid a winding network of streets and sidewalks shaded by mature oaks.

My god... this park is masterfully built to perfection... those circular glass and grass restaurants are beautiful. Hanover is a real one.
