Pearson was ok.

10mins weight for the gate, easy de board, rental car in 20, slick.

I flew from Vancouver to Toronto (Pearson) yesterday. Here’s my story:

- I arrived at YVR over 2 1/2 hours before my departure. I got checked in and through security very quickly, and had 2 hours to kill before my scheduled departure.
- Flight was scheduled to depart at 2:10pm. Due to delays from maintenance staff and a technical issue related to providing water to the lavatories, we didn’t depart until about 3:45. Flight itself went smoothly.
- Scheduled arrival time at Pearson was 9:30pm; due to the departure delay we arrived at 10:53pm. We were directed to carousel 1 for checked baggage.
- Baggage hall at Terminal 1 was an absolute war zone. There were literally hundreds of abandoned suitcases, as well as folded up strollers and walkers scattered all over the hall. Some had travel dates from as long ago as late June, and many came from places as far away as Lisbon or Edinburgh. You had to step over some of the bags to get around.
- It took almost 3 hours for me to get my bag. There were well over 100 of us in the baggage hall waiting for baggage from various domestic flights. There was absolutely no communication from anyone about what was going on and then why my flight disappeared from the screen. I felt bad for the families there who already had very cranky children who were already upset about the delays.
- There was absolutely no staff around other than an Air Canada employee (I was flying with another airline). I found a phone and called airport information, the staff member explained that there was no staff available to handle our bags, there were just sitting outside. I went back to the carousel to tell everyone the news since neither the airline nor the airport could be bothered to communicate.
- Minutes later the bags started coming out. I left the airport at 1:44am with my bag. I’m writing this from Kipling Station, where a bunch of us with suitcases are waiting for the TTC Blue Night Bus.

What a day. I’m supposed to do a business trip to several cities this fall, but I am going to suggest to my manager that we skip Toronto as a result of the airport issues there. I’m not as much bothered by the delays as I am the lack of communication.

The main line was busy, but maybe 20-25 mins or so.

Gates are BUSY

Flew YYC YVR with a carryon yesterday with maybe a 5 minute wait in security. Did YVR YYZ and YYZ YYC two weeks and a week ago and it also wasn’t bad, but I guess I’m just lucky. Wouldn’t want to check a bag right now though.

You're blaming the airport authority, when a lot of these issues are the fault of airlines and/or their contractors at the airport. (Not saying the airport authorities don't have their share of the blame as well, but in this case, I don't believe they're to blame)

In your case, you should blame Lynx and their baggage handler at YYZ. (Don't know why you didn't mention the airline you flew.)

If you're flying for business, I would suggest you avoid these new ULCCs. Go with AC, WS or even TS. I include the latter airline because they almost never cancel flights, unlike the former two.

Eurowings (summer seasonal) Frankfurt FRA- Calgary YYC few times weekly flights starts today & operated by a Finnair Airbus A350-900.

Its the 1st international flight route for YYC on the A350.

As YYC long haul international flights are currently operated mostly by a mix of Boeing 787,777 and Airbus A330/340.

That Finnair frame was operating MUC-YUL until yesterday. LH mainline takes over the route today.

330? Nobody is currently flying an A330 long haul to YYC. It's all 789 with the exception of the Edelweiss 343 and now Finnair 359.

Yep the ULCC are a false economy in many cases. But Canadians will almost always get sucked in by a low price sticker.;)

Canada Jetlines Announces First Flight from #Toronto Pearson to #Moncton New Brunswick! ✈️

We're excited to share a second leg to our inaugural flight on August 15, to Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport. The flight will be our first service offered to the new route.

“Canada Jetlines is excited to offer service on our inaugural day out of our hub in Toronto to the vibrant destination of Moncton, New Brunswick,” shared Eddy Doyle, CEO of Canada Jetlines. “We’ve chosen Moncton as our first destination in the Maritime provinces for its attractive offering for tourists and its convenient reach to a large segment of the population of New Brunswick..."

I thought Winnipeg was the first flight then Moncton was the same day but the second official flight…l

Yes true, there are no Airbus A330's doing Calgary YYC International flights this Summer 2022. But looks like it will be back again end of October 2022 as KLM Amsterdam AMS- Calgary flights are mix of A332/A333,for this up coming winter season.

I wouldn't worry too much about TS. They're not going anywhere.

It's only $100 million. They're a small airline. The pandemic hit them harder than most. It's normal that they need more cash than a big fish like AC, which was sitting on a pile of it pre-pandemic and could weather the storm a bit better than little ole' Transat.

Post-pandemic, no Canadian airline has posted a profit in a single quarter (much less full year) to date. That includes AC, which coincidentally releases their Q2 results tomorrow. Let's see what it will look like.

Seems like Swoop will be competing against 3 ULCC now:

^ Flights have been loaded for a few weeks now.

Someone on here was saying 2 weeks ago that there will be 6 carriers on YYZ-YWG.

I commented as well, saying all these new ULCCs put together only amounts to a 25% increase in flights on YYZ-YWG. So its not a huge increase, at least not yet.

In other news, AC still lost money in Q2, even though their revenues reached almost $4 billion in the quarter, which is 5x more than Q2 2021.

The most interesting bit of news today is that AC will acquire 2 factory built B777 freighters by 2024.

Define False economy? I have flown flair for under 100 RT between Toronto and Calgary and Vancouver.
Its a worse experience and packing is a chore, but its cheap. These types of airlines are needed in our country.

25% increase to a city like Winnipeg is a massive increase. Not sure why that should be downplayed.
Winnipeg is not exactly a huge market.

How many freighters will this end up being for Air Canada? I wonder if they have their eyes on some domestic courier contracts currently operated by Cargojet.

8x B763 conversions from pax to freight.
2x factory fresh B763Fs.
2x factory fresh B77Fs.

That’s 12.
