I don't know. Either way, it's not true, so doesn't really matter.

Nothing has prevented WS from serving YCG, especially in the last 3 years, now that the Saab 340s are part of their gameplan. it's the perfect plane for YCG. A 30-34 seater.

Yup I'd jump on that plane no problem. Especially to Kelowna or even Calgary since AC hasn't reinstated that flight yet.

Looks like Air Canada is reinstating its flight from Castlegar to Calgary mid September some time so great news!

And Central Mountain Air to Vancouver bumps up to daily June 28th the same day Air Canada brings back its flight to Vancouver.

AC paid $10 million in senior executive bonuses while simultaneously begging the federal government for bailout $: https://queenscitizen.ca/2021/06/02/...to-air-canada/

Thoughts on the optics?

Bad. Awful.

1. They laid off thousands of front line employees
2. Asked (begged) for government aid
3. Withheld refunds for customers

There is no way they can spin this positively.

So theoretically Canada still have 2 unused frequency, so I wonder if it will be used? Maybe YUL-PVG or YVR/YYZ-PEK? Or they'll will make an exemption and allow WS to fly to China?

WS was apparently granted approval to operate cargo flights to China last year, and did attempt to gain access to pax flights. I think their issue was the quarantine rules for crew. AC gets around this with a stop in ICN, but WS doesn't have that luxury without adding a second Asian destination making it less desirable.

It's not quite Dr. Dao's removal from United bad, but it's classic Air Canada tone-deaf from the bad days of the AC/Canadian merger.

Of course they'll get away with it because it's not like there's tons of choice in this country right now.

That's one segment of BBD aerospace - well, the only segment left now - that is doing good.

I wonder what bonuses they gave their front line employees who were constantly exposed to Covid and/or passengers irate over Covid rules?

What's with that Queens Citizen website? From that article. Some kind of translation?

Global flights converge in Toronto. Copies intended for American troops are to be modified at the Baptist Bombardier E-11A baptism plant at Wichita, Kansas. The interior and exterior painting of the aircraft will be carried out at the company facilities in Tucson, Arizona.

The first device of this agreement will enter service by the end of the year. It replaces the E-11A that crashed in Afghanistan in January 2020 following an engine failure that killed four people.

From 2007 to 2013, Bombardier sent four global aircraft to U.S. forces, including the wreckage.

“The United States Air Force is proud to have re-elected Bombardier,” said Michelle Oulette, vice president of special operations at Bombardier.

“Our US-based employees are honored to put their skills to work on this high-level project,” he added.

1000km by rail, over flying? Yeah right.

Not in North America, not even in 2050.

CityTech Jun 5, 2021 2:16 PM

If we invest in good trains I don't see why not.

Likely not even in Europe.

Seems like AC will have the last 2 weekly.

AC wanted to fly to PEK, but the Chinese authority does not allow them (hence both direct flight into PEK from CA and HU were cancelled as a result). Then AC is trying to add YUL-ICN-PVG, but slot at PVG is currently very hard to get and AC (along with UA) already have the most out of any other airlines. AC is currently allowed to fly into any other city that's not PEK and PVG.

Given ICN is a skyteam hub you would expect WS would find that attractive being able to have some onward codeshare connections. Also given the competition (AC) is also flying via ICN a one-stop operation is competitive in the market.

I think they were also offered undesirable slots at PVG, and possibly only short-term slots similar to the LHR ones they obtained? I mean if WS really wanted to serve China of course they could have launched something like YYC-ICN-PVG.

1000 km? No. ≤600 km? Sure. A lot of the TOM triangle flights, Corridor feeders into Pearson and CalEd corridor flights could and should be eliminated.
