Huh? Start or announce?

Nothing has been announced by Interjet about YYZ, nor is anything bookable. I doubt they will start a route in 3 weeks, when the route hasn't even been announced yet.

They are starting service to YUL in 3 days.

Looks like he's right:

Swissport announced it will provide Interjet with comprehensive ground handling services including passenger and ramp handling, baggage services, operations coordination and load control. Montreal services will inaugurate on July 13 with six weekly flights, and Toronto will follow shortly thereafter on July 28 with eight weekly departures. The airline will operate flights to Canada from both, Mexico City and Cancun.

Unless the bilateral has changed, that would be impossible. Also, I'm pretty sure YYZ would go daily before any new city is launched. Where did you hear that rumor?

On another note, YYZ May numbers are out:

International posting the strongest growth at 12.3%, up 741K over YTD may 2016.
Overall growth up 7.7% or 1.3 MM over YTD May 2016.

In terms of % YUL international YTD is at 12.9%. And YTD overall 8.5%

bilateral with Thailand was recently expanded. Maybe an expanded bilateral with the U.A.E is in the works.

I agree with you though. If it happens, YYZ will go daily or even double daily, and I think YVR will get EK service ahead of YUL.

AC is still only winter seasonal on YVR-DEL, at mostly 3x weekly (5x weekly only for a brief period). If I was EK, I would jump on DXB-YVR to try and catch as much India-YVR traffic as I can before AC goes year round.

True, I meant the strongest growth of the three sectors at YYZ. As has been the case though for a few years, international volume growth at YYZ is higher than YUL, YVR, and YYC combined, by about 80K.

Then perhaps the bilateral is being expanded. So maybe YUL gets three per week, but I think the consensus is that YYZ would see daily or double daily. May help explain Air Canada's very aggressive push into India as well. They are in talks with several Indian cities to start direct service. If I had to guess, I would say Bangalor, Calcutta, and Amritsar are three likely possibilities.

YYZ came up because if EK is to expand service into Canada, it likely means the bilateral is being expanded, which in turn likely means expanded service into YYZ. Sorry, what's the issue?

That will be one empty inaugural flight.

Yes, they code-share with Westjet as well, and can target YYC-YVR-DXB and YEG-YVR-DXB easily

SaskScraper Jul 11, 2017 7:37 PM

Air Canada may have to review pilot procedures and institute better training before the airline does anymore expansion. There could be a major catastrophe if not.

Incidents happen sometimes. People make mistakes. A while back, Westjet almost landed in the ocean. What's important is that both turned out okay, and both will be learned from. Air Canada is one of the safest airlines in the world.

According to an Air Canada VP, the Federal government turned down their request to start YUL-BEY, yet again.

MicroBurst that cause plane to have to abort landing just before end of a runway that happens to start on an ocean beach is quite different than aiming for a taxiway to land on.

And they didn't land there. Sometimes humans make mistakes.
