Agreed. That said, I'll use whichever happens to have the better price/schedule.

That's a new low

Even Rouge doesn't do that

Unacceptable honestly.

I really like Rouge to be honest. Without Rouge I would have had to take a 2 stop flight to Athens.

Vancouver International Airport named the Best Airport in the World

Quote:

Canada’s second largest airport has won yet another accolade, this time landing the title of 2016’s ‘Best Airport in the World’.

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) was awarded the title by the CAPA Centre (CPAC) for Aviation in a ceremony held in Amsterdam earlier today.

“This is an incredible achievement and is a testament to YVR’s success and our growing influence on the world stage,” said Craig Richmond, YVR’s President and CEO. “We have achieved this milestone thanks to our focus on safety, teamwork, accountability and innovation—and our community based, not-for-profit governance model, under which we constantly improve the airport for our passengers, our partners and our communities.”

But unlike the annual Skytrax awards largely based on passenger comfort and airport design, which YVR has consecutively won, the CAPAC title is given to the airport that is the biggest standout strategically, has turned itself into a leader, and done the most to advance the progress of the global aviation industry.

I stayed at the Comfort Inn on Airport Road which is right across the road from the airport. It was $95 a night. I stayed three nights and took the UP Express into downtown to see the Jays in their last two post-season games.

Some friends paid MUCH more to stay at a downtown hotel during the games.

That ALT hotel looks cool from the outside. I might give it a try next time.

If you rent one of their limited tablets they only have about a dozen things to choose to watch. It may be time to give Air Canada another shot.

The key issue, is the old system was based on a satellite service. Outside of Canada the aircraft were generally outside of the range of the satellite.

Congrats to YVR. I love that it's the airport I get to fly in to every time I come back to Canada, especially after leaving PVG - those two airports are like night and day from each other.

While it's nice that your city is able to grow and expand your airport and solidify yourselves as a hub market, it's also inhibiting other cities on the prairies to be able grow and expand our airports which reduce our capabilities of adding additional direct flights on an international scale, so you will have to excuse and pardon me if I cannot find it within myself to be as excited for this opening as you.

Bigtime Oct 31, 2016 3:15 PM

Hub and spoke system, and this new terminal will only force further consolidation of flights to YYC from those smaller markets.

Which again, screws the rest of us over. Can't exactly be happy about that from our perspective.

Last i checked, YEG, YWG, YXE, YMM all got new/renovated terminals (or expansions) recently.

Why shouldn't YYC. Your point is moot. If the market is there, airlines will serve it. Sure, there will always be some priority given to a hub, as opposed to a spoke, but to assume this new wing at YYC will prevent future international flights to the prairies is a bit ridiculous.

YUL got a new international and transborder wing 12-13 years ago. That didn't stop AC from launching YOW-FRA around the same time. That also didn't stop US carriers from serving the Nation's Capital, or Canadian carriers trying out new US destinations out of YOW. If the demand and the yields are there, it will be served.

On bigger planes too, what with that new runway. You know, with the punch-above-your-weight, can-do attitude.

Pretty easy to see each airports specialty, (YYZ and SFO are broad based, DFW is Latin American, YUL is Europe, YVR is Asia etc...)

Working on the beast (LAX) and IAH right now.
