I actually like the brightness. Projects like this will eventually force other buildings to upgrade their lighting. And I think San Diego needs it. I travel often for work and though I think we have one of the prettiest skylines, we have one of the dullest skylines at night. More creative lighting creates more vibrancy and security.

I agree, it didn't seem too bright, though I'm curious to see what it looks like from Shelter Island. I think the white is perfect for this building. I think it's classier than the red/green we see on other buildings.

Because they have such a problem landing in cities with brighter lights? (Tokyo, Hong Kong, NYC, Paris, etc).

Most of the flight is automated these days base on the IRL, not pilot control.

Riverwalk Gold Course redevelopment added 300 homes to the original 4000 proposed. Looking to get approvals set over the next two years, construction beginning in 2020, with a 10-15 year timeline for completion.

Just got off the phone with the head Engineer for Irvine Company at One America Plaza and I'm happy to say that damn thing will finally be lit up properly with a crown similar to US Bank Tower in LA he said. Unfortunately he said it has taken years for some reason I couldn't really understand but it will be finished this year :cheers:

I think the lighting on the, Pacific Gate building is fantastic. It looks like a lightning bolt at night. It's dramatic from a distance. Especially flying into San Diego International at night.

Didn't one America plaza use to have the crown lit up? Old photos of the skyline at night show this. Wonder why it stopped. I went to take photos of the skyline last night but forgot my memory card :/ I'll get some tonight if the lights are on. The lights look good but it'd be nice if they pulsated or did something similar to the new Wilshire grand in LA. We have too many neons and yearly Christmas lights around town.

I don't think the City ever really did have a chance to move the Airport to Miramar. The DOD was not about to let it go.

It did in the 90's, back when the Navy was divesting heavily, it offered the base to the city for some ridiculously low number. The city balked for reasons and the DoD transferred it to the Marines.

They offered it to San Diego for $1.00.

The one dollar give away deal was either in 1949 right after WWII or 1953 when Korean War ended. The 90's deal SDfan is referring to is not familiar to me can you provide a source for that or explain in more detail?

Even if SAN moves, NAS North Islands flight path is directly over downtown. Those are first time helo pilots buzzing the Hyatt. The planes landing at SAN aren't the issue. SD will never see a 500+ footer downtown until both airports are gone and that will never happen.
