If Derek wants to do that just let me know. I'm working on the list.

I can do that. :)

Here's a picture of 15th & Island I took from the new library the other day--not a close up but at least it gives you a decent view of the entire project site. I will snap another picture today when I walk my dog (I live right next door) from the ground level--but they are currently pouring the concrete for all this exposed steel rebar of the central core, and the underground parking garage for tower 1 is nearly done, they're pouring the ceiling concrete right now--which is great because once the parking garage is completed they are supposed to begin landscaping the park (Suporlock Pourier)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a4/photo12.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a4/photo22.jpg Hopefully this works. The last picture shows the parking structure which is finally at street level and ready to be capped and begin the park (East Village needs a park SO desperately--but what I don't like is that they're going to build a fence around it, to lock everyone out after hours--which is probably for the best since the neighborhood is basically skid row) |
I.D.E.A. District
I meant to mention something about the I.D.E.A. District, a project I think is smart one, considering the multiple uses for the building and the public ground floor atrium space. It's the fenced off lot just north of the NewSchool of Architecture campus between E and F street adjacent to the trolley line on Park Blvd (a space that is currently notorious for attracting sidewalk homeless camps and drug dealers, and sometimes violence.)
I had a short conversation with David Malmuth (one of two minds behind I.D.E.A. District) and he told me the day before it was made official that they were given the green light for their first building to begin construction, which will probably begin before winter. http://ideadistrictsd.com/wp-content...trict-Book.pdf:cheers: |
Thanks for updating the front page Derek!

Thank you tyleraf!

Thanks for the update Bertrice! I'm looking forward to the new park and phase 1 to be completed.

I really hope Stadium View starts soon. The tower is super slender and tall, and would be a nice addition to the EV skyline. I found some more renderings in the March 2012 Real Estate Committee docket on the civicsd website.

SDfan: So do I! That area of downtown could use some more height. Does anyone know the status of Blue Sky and Sempra? I think both were supposed to break ground last month.
|
Not sure on the status of those.
Nice job on the compilation of projects. It's pretty exciting all of the projects that are now in queue. Here is something I came across that details the height limit restrictions. http://www.san.org/documents/aluc/sdia_alucp.pdf Some of you may already know this, but the FAA doesn't actually regulate the building heights around the airport, the city does. That said, the FAA can threaten to shut down the airport if development creates dangerous conditions. There is a minimum circling height of 800ft for planes over downtown within 2.3 miles of the airport (basically to the tip of Barrio Logan). As such, the city chose a 500ft height limit to provide a buffer. Ironically, the one place where buildings higher than 500ft could go (barrio logan) is zoned to somewhere around 60ft if I recall. |
Maybe someone like Bosa will start pushing for higher height limits. I'm sure it would only increase his profits. Or maybe Barrio Logan could open up for skyscrapers. Either way I hope we can eventually break the 500 mark. Another interesting tidbit that I came across recently is that a very small portion of the ballpark village site (the one not currently in the works) has a 600 ft height limit, so technically we could end up with a spire that would break 500. I sure hope we become wise like Miami and start pushing for raised height limits though.

I've said it before, but if Vegas can have 600+ footers 2 miles from the airport, then so can San Diego.
