Once UA pilots come to their senses and remove the cap on number of 76 seat aircraft at the regionals; expect UA to move a bunch flying back to the Express carriers. The CRJ 550 (a CR7 with only 55 seats) will be the breaking point, IMHO.

Because of the UK's temporary ban on 737 Max 8's, flights from St. John's and London, as well as Halifax to London have been cancelled, at least between the dates of the 12th and 14th. Looks like they're going to try and re-book these people on other flights out of Toronto, Montreal, or Ottawa.
|
In a month (hopefully).....WestJet will have Max 8s from Halifax to Dublin, Gatwick, Glasgow and Paris
|
France, Germany, Ireland and Italy have also banned the Max 8s from their airports.

Norwegians launch of the new Dublin-Hamilton route which was suppose to start at the end of March has been pushed to May. This route uses the 737 Max.

Karma's a bitch....
Instead of meddling into BBD's affairs these last few years, Boeing should have payed closer attention to their own planes. First the 787 battery issues, and now this. They are 0 for 2 with their last 2 rollouts. The fact these planes got certified is proof enough that the FAA and government officials are blinded by all the lobbying and corruption that goes on in the States. What a joke. I've been saying it for some time now. It's completely ridiculous that a B737-100 (a plane built in 1967) has the same type certificate as the 737 Max. They are two completely different planes, and yet Boeing got away with it. Only in the US of A does this kind of shit fly. EASA raised concerns but blinked. Only a few countries (notably Brazil) had the balls to disagree with the FAA and included the MCAS in a differences training session for their MAX pilots. If I was Marc Garneau, I would have grounded the Max in Canada 2 days ago. The hell with AC's and WS's profits. Safety needs to come first. Instead the Liberal government now looks like a fool (as if that wasn't the case already before this unfortunate event). This was a good chance for them to show the flying public what they were made of. That they had the brass to be one of the first countries to err on the side of caution and ground the plane until they were sure the problem was resolved. Instead, they shoved their heads deeper up the US's ass. Typical Canada. What a shame. Their chances of getting reelected this fall are dwindling by the day. But it's not as if the Conservatives will be any better. |

Canada is looking like a fool right now, when pretty much everyone else has grounded these planes. I think the big thing holding back Garneau is that proportionally, Canada will be affected the most since the 737max makes up a good fraction of the domestic fleet. However that doesn't mean they can sacrifice on safety. |
Good news for Mirabel. If Airbus can develop the A220-500.

|
Canada has banned 737max until further notice with immediate effect
|
^ Yikes. I fly to Ottawa through Calgary next week on Westjet. I wonder if my flight will be affected
|
And the US is following suit.

C Series type certification was extremely "dirty". |
Everyone is dirty. Transport Canada can't go against the FAA, at least not in public. That's the definition of dirty right there. Hence why Marc Garneau didn't ground the planes initially. Once the Aireon satellite track of the plane was known, he had no choice.
However between me and you, Flightradar24 was already showing an up and down flight trajectory. He didn't need to wait for Aireon. FR24 uses ADSB as well. The info was just as reliable. |
Not disagreeing with any of that, except FR24 coverage in the area was quite spotty.
And in case it wasn't clear, I meant technically dirty for C Series. The aircraft was not airworthy at Type Cert. |
Periodic updates:
BA to sub an Air Belgium A343 between June 9th and August 17th on the early LHR-YYZ, continuing their string of weakness on the route.. http://m.atwonline.com/airline-financia ... t-aircraft Swiss to look at launching YYZ, I would anticipate S20 would make sense, either an A333 if AC maintains service, or a 77W if AC stops the route, I’d say the former is more likely given AC’s history on YYZ-ZRH. Sunwing is wet leasing 2 Eastern 767s (1 -200 and 1 -300) for the duration of the max grounding, they are currently at YYZ. They will also be leasing the Omni 777 this weekend for extra lift. AC is reportedly talking to BA about leasing a 777(s) to cover the max groundings. I have no further info on that at this time unfortunately. WS has added extra flying on the 789 between YYZ and YYC to recover displaced pax. Long story short, this max grounding is absolutely disastrous. 2019 numbers will likely take quite a dip as a result, it’ll be Intersting to see how it plays out. |
