It's the New York skyline we're talking about, with multiple skyscrapers visible from miles around. (Just so you know, that's not a New York phenomenon either). As far as fitting into the "fabric" of the city, I know not of what fabric you speak. But since we're talking about the Nordstrom (CP) tower here, what exaclty about a massive department store clustered in both new and older buildings, seemlessly connected to the city's streetwall and pedestrian landscape doesn't fit? If you're talking about expensive apartments above, well look around my friend. it's freakin Manhattan. http://ww2.hdnux.com/photos/43/64/23.../5/920x920.jpg http://www.seattlepi.com/business/ar...in-6824413.php http://ww3.hdnux.com/photos/43/64/23.../1024x1024.jpg |

These supertalls fit in perfectly with the city fabric, amongst other supertalls. |

Glad to see this thing really starting to 'take shape'. Obviously it has a way to go before it starts looking like a skyscraper, but at least now we can visualize the hole it is filling.
|
^ At the very least, there's not that big, open hole in the streetwall. And we can kind of visualize how the store fits in.

Given that it's hard to appreciate the height without being there in person, how tall is this now? |

Nordstrom Tower Plan May Be Keeping Midtown Storefronts Empty, Experts Say https://assets.dnainfo.com/generated...extralarge.jpghttp://qe1pr67o4hj19lx494tvhiwf.wpen...18-550x367.jpg By Noah Hurowitz March 3, 2016 Quote:

Wait, so Gale Brewer is concerned about "empty storefronts" yet previously she was concerned about "full storefronts" (she previously successfully campaigned to shrink retail allowances on the Upper West Side and claimed there was too much retail and foot traffic in Manhattan).
How do you build new retail space without leaving the space temporarily empty? Pretty sure that violates the rules of physics. You can't have a store occupying a space that is u/c. Gale Brewer is an idiot. |

Just something else for them to complain about. Of course, after the tower is built and open, and shoppers are flooding the area, with spillover into the surrounding blocks, they'll have been for it all along. |

One tower that's a must to visit is URL in JC. Viewing it from Lower Manhattan is no good, one must be right next to it. We often forget how tall some of these towers are because of the reference to other towers when viewing it from a far. Even WTC4 can look tiny through pics, and ones which show the whole skyline but on the ground level, we are ants compared to it. |

Also, I totally agree. 4WTC is 977 feet which is massive, but when you see it jammed pack with a ton of other skyscrapers it's extremely difficult to appreciate the height. |
Ridiculous about the storefronts…if you want shopping, TWC is right down the block.

There is a solution that would make everybody happy- pick up the pace and finish the tower sooner
