^I agree -- 6th Ave along Balboa Park is exactly where this type of luxury residential project belongs. I think this is a great redevelopment of the property.

New mixed use project by SDSU, called "South Campus Plaza" breaking ground later this year.

That building is at 2850 Sixth, just up the street from me and is ugly as hell. Currently being used as a school, but I suspect most of the building is vacant. Formerly a medical building. Super ugly when viewed from the fifth street site. This project will be a huge improvement, IMO.

I agree, that building looks really shitty. I'm not sad to see it go. I'm just surprised the developer was able to get passed the horrible uptown planners. They pretty much oppose anything over '65.

Good point. Makes me wonder if they are "leaving a wall" from the previous building to somehow classify it as a renovation.

Currently watching the Padres games and the tower cranes looming in left center field look awesome (Sempra?). It'll fill in a nice gap.

College area seems ripe for development. Transit, freeway access, large university and nice urban environment/street layout.

Great project

Very nice infill. The college area is ready for growth. I'd love to see some highrises go up around SDSU.

I think like with 90% of the city, we are going to have to be content with mid-rise development for decades to come. The neighborhoods aren't having it, even where it makes most sense (Hillcrest, Mission Hills, Bankers Hill, etc.)

Downtown-UTC-Mission Valley

Those three areas will be where we see moderate high-rise development. More so downtown, of course, some in UTC, maybe a bit more in MV.

I am pretty sure they have to keep them as low income housing but the 'apartments' around the C Street 6th Ave Trolley stop is what makes that corridor undesirable. Depending on what time of the day it is, it's like walking through skid row.

All of those buildings are perfect options to be converted to office space for the 'Creative Class' that wants to work in San Diego.

Aerial View of the Lane Field Construction & New CAC Waterfront Park

Lane Field is coming along nicely, parking is not underground so it seems the foundation is moving quickly

Just a very cool shot of the Waterpark from the 31st floor of The Grande North tower.

Wow, nice photos. I'm glad to see lane Field moving along so quickly. I look forward to seeing Pacific and Broadway and Navy Broadway rising hopefully soon. Also, SdViaPhilly do you know if those civicsd construction logs have been updated recently?

S.DviaPhilly Jun 21, 2014 3:01 AM

It does not seem like they have, I check out the meetings and events to see what projects are being discussed and these two look great!

This looks awesome, will transform that whole area - 2, 32 story towers with hotel rooms/apts and condos! Also 2, 2 story retail buildings!!! Proposed for 7th/8th/Broadway/C St. GAMECHANGER!!!

Great redevelopment for the Palm Hotel (oldest hotel downtown) on Park Blvd. and Island. Love the redesign, bummed they want a old folks home/senior center there.

Straight to the point, I don't follow this thread closely and I honestly don't know what these projects are called. I'll hopefully follow this thread closely and go take more photos next time. Well, here's photos from today.

Here's the typical Coronado-DTSD shot

And here's a building that's changing the skyline. The fact that it's apparent from Coronado Island and that it's extending the skyline south makes it nice.

Yay here's that building again.

That top pic of the skyline is beautiful!

spoonman Jun 21, 2014 4:10 PM

Nice shots! The city definitely has a pretty look from the Coronado angle even if much of the buildings and density is not visible.

tyleraf Jun 21, 2014 4:16 PM

Nice photos. Known as good as the angle from point Loma, Coronado photos always look great. I'm glad that 15th and Island is filling in the gap in the photos. I look forward to seeing the second tower go up.

Here is an article about the hotel Churchhill renovation that supposed to start soon thankfully it's going to be restored to its old appearance. You better head over and say goodbye to the castle, if anyone ever misses it. Unfortunately it will still be an SRO. http://m.utsandiego.com/news/2014/ju...ng-commission/

SDCAL Jun 22, 2014 7:05 PM

Any word on when IDEA1 will break ground?

We have renderings and article links on the previous page for this project, definitely great though.

Interesting. I'm fine with it being senior housing though, we need as much as we can get these days.
