That's what that's going to be, an apple store; I was wondering what they've been doing there. That's pretty kick ass. There's not too many apple stores that aren't part of some giant mall here.

I'll be in Houston again this weekend if anyone wants to meet up (Saturday?) downtown and take some photos or visit construction sites. . . PM me if you're interested. . .

I drove by this terd of a building on my way back to my apartment today and saw they are recladding it in blueish glass and replacing that crappy 80s facade. It will look kinda like the glass on the old Enron building and will be a decent upgrade to what it looks like now. The building Im talking about is the small brown terd on the right side of the photo.
http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/...rdboy1/ted.jpg photo by me. You can see theyve installed the railing on the side to take the old facade off already. I wish they would do something with that old Days Inn or whatever it was. Its been just rotting away and the views from it if it were turned into apartments would be kick ass. Also took some pictures tonight of the Hanover at Rice Village development. http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/...dboy1/ted1.jpg photo by me http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/...in-dunstan.jpg http://swamplot.com/hanover-at-rice-...er/2011-03-29/ Now I dont know if the above render is really what its going to look like. I couldnt find any recent renders of what it will look like. That photo is from about a year ago and the development so far doesnt look to be as tall as the render shows. |

As to Hanover Rice Village, it's still set to be 5 stories. It's got a pretty massive garage that's been constructed. |

Big Expansion of Child Sexual Abuse Prevention and Treatment Coming to the Rice Village Great news for the children first of all and great news for Rice Village and it's continuing improvement. This will be located right across from the 5 story Hanover apartments being constructed. Swamplot http://swamplot.com/wp-content/uploa...ion-render.jpg Quote:

What's going on with the development at West Gray and Waugh? Has the Tavern been demolished yet? |
Also, the progress on the light rail is stunning...particularly seeing it tie together near the new stadium.
Does anyone have any photos of the progress being made of the north (red) line? I remember there was a lot of construction of the flyover from UH. |

Of any building in Houston that needs to see a wrecking ball, it's that tall white building next to the fed building in the pic above. That thing is a dilapidated piece of shit. It's a 30-story eyesore that should have been gone years ago. Anybody know what will ever become of that thing?

This has nothing to do with anything really but I'm walking around the river oaks theatre in Montrose and there are 3 Starbucks within 200ft of each other. This must be where Lewis Black was talking about when he though the Universe was collapsing in upon itself when he stepped out of a Starbucks in Houston and then saw another one right across the street lol.

It looks just ok, its much better than just another bland suburban styled gated apartment complex, of which Houston has way too effing much of.

I know there are three abandoned skyscrapers downtown that are all owned by the same guy, a real esatate mogul in New York who is waiting until they are ready for a renovation. I don't know if that is one of those three buildings.
|
I recall seeing a rendering of the building with plans to turn it into condos, but obviously nothing came of that. HCAD says Beanmont Medical Center Hotel LLC own it. Apparently they still owe about $23k on this year's taxes.
EDIT: Actually the rendering is still in this very thread. http://img277.echo.cx/img277/1243/aa429fm.jpg http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...67&postcount=1 |

That would be pretty cool and would bring a whole bunch of new residents downtown. Im in my apartment right now and that piece of crap although is always staring me in the face out my window. It really is ugly and depressing. |

The 17-story Plaza Hotel in College Station is the same thing and in the same state but should be imploded this summer for a HUGE urban infill project(ground floor retail, the works) that will be a million times better than if they redid the nasty tower-in-the-park(ing lot) like originally planned. |

The new Apple Store is quite handsome.

It's about time Houston got a stand alone Apple Store for those of us who loathe going to the malls. It's open design actually fits in very well in the palm lined Highland Village environment. Plus it's right next door to Sprinkles Cupcakes. :-)
