Everything looks so short from that angle of Vancouver.
|
Vancouvers tallest is only 646 ft and there is only a couple over 500 ft.

The Entertainment District has the potential to take on a lot more towers. Some of the warehouses in that shot have plans to be converted to high rise condos anyways. When the Entertainment District is all high rise towers, it will be teaming with people. Hopefully by then, all of the work to pedestrianize the area will have been completed. This area along with Yonge Street is in need of much wider sidewalks.

Yeah, in my mind that's been the biggest change from a decade ago - you don't have to include the CBD cluster to get a good skyline shot anymore. |

am i seeing correctly? … is the crane completely off the L tower? or are my eyes deceiving me? that tower looks a little better now.

I know I'm going to get absolutely destroyed over this and I have no intention of starting a flame war, but Montreal's skyline really does nothing for me. Any angle with the Jacques Cartier bridge is better, but the DT core just really doesn't appeal to me. Don't get me wrong, I love Montreal from the street and really like buildings like Le Batman, 1501 McGill College, the Aldred building, 1250 Rene Levesque and of course the countless cathedral spires, but 1000 de la Gauchetiere, PVM and Tour de la Bourse bore me. Even new additions like Tour des Canadiens bore me. I can't put my finger on it but the skyline (DT core) just looks dated and boring to my eyes. Again, I love the city from the street and really love the buildings up close, but from afar it just looks.... .
Edit: Looking at that last pic by SkahHigh I think I figured out what it needs. Something nice and tall and WHITE. All the concrete and stone and 80's Pomo needs something sleek and modern and bright to break through. |
and why nice and tall? why? why Tall? we have so much depth in our skyline/downtown core.. so much character... density... something many cities including Calgary will never have .I stop there.

Montreal used to have my favorite skyline in Canada. I'm not sure which skyline is my favorite now, but I have to admit it's been a while since Montreal's really rocked my socks. I would love to see a new signature tower there, especially if it could somehow break that pesky height limit.
