1,550' is pretty big! The ICC in Hong Kong is only 38ft taller, and also has a parapet.

Also, the elevation is ~80ft, so this tower will have an enormous impact on the skyline!

Every building on billionaires row will have its own unique look, except for this one. This will look like a glass version of 432 park ave. The spire took it to its own level of greatness and now it's awful. This developer has aweful taste. He had a moment to have the tallest in America and he blew it. Hopefully something amazing comes out of the hudson spire site.

Hi guys!

There is the photo compilation of the construction during the month of August:

Thanks!

This tower really needed the spire aesthetically, let's hope this information changes.

Agreed. The same sized spire with the new roof height will push this to around 1850' passing WTC-1 and the CN Tower as well

Without the spire, the tower seems to lose something. With the spire, the tower had become a new focal point in New York. Restore the spire, please!

Transmitter?

It may get an antenna 4 broadcasting.

No thanks. There are already too many spires in NYC in my opinion.

not true. nyc is mostly a plateau of flat, 150-meter high roofs. it has a few antennas here and there but only a couple good spires. Nordstrom needs a spire because all the other tall buildings around it don't have one

I would prefer a spire. Happy to see the full 1550 ft. tower, but I feel this tower would be better with a spire.

I wish at least 100 real floors and 500 m for this skyscraper !!!!

Surely you jest. Read up virtually any of the New York threads, or simply look up his recent post history, and the reason for his banishment should be plainly obvious.

Back on topic, while i like the idea of having a spire on top of this building, I prefer it'd be gradually tapered like 40 Wall St, Chrysler, One Prudential Plaza, etc.

It looks cheaply made with precast concrete and its very simple parapet. It's pretty much bare bones "modern twist prewar"

You just made all that up.

220 CPS is solid limestone, and its probably the most expensive residential tower ever built on the planet. It's arguably the least "cheap" building anywhere, which is probably why it's getting contracts signed on two units costing over $200 million each before marketing has even formally begun. They've already sold well over a billion before the marketing stage.

And I'm not aware of any prewar tower anywhere that has such massive usage of limestone. Even 15 CPW looks like a tenement compared to 220 CPS.

There was almost nothing built during the 1930's, majestic or otherwise, BTW. Construction largely stopped from around 1930 until 1940, and didn't really pick up until 1950 or so.

Well ... except for the Empire State Building, 70 Pine Street, 30 Rock and 20 Exchange Place. Quite a few others, including Chrysler started construction in the late 20's but weren't complete until the 30's. Now, of course after the early 30's, what you are saying is true and I'm sure all the buildings that started construction in the very early 30's went through all the planning/prep in the late 20's.

Foosh Sep 16, 2015 11:30 AM

Nordstrom should have a spire, not an antennae looking thing masked as a spire but a true Chrysler building spire of sorts!

New Nordstrom opening in the next couple of weeks here in Vancouver! :)

^Perfectly timed lol. I'm sure we will get some tapered/angled building crowns on a supertall pretty soon.
