HOUSTON | 7200 Main | ~50 Floors | 4 Towers | DEMO
Developer: Springwoods Realty
Architect: HOK
Type: Mixed-Use
Location: 7200 Main, Texas Medical Center
Construction Timeline:

*Things are stitching together here. In 2006, Springwoods Realty purchased a large portion of this land for vertical development. Renderings of the project, designed by HOK, were discovered online in 2014. The developer purchased the last remaining parcel in December 2015; a school sits on the site. Yesterday, the school announced that they will move to a new location on or before Dec. 2018.

A design competition was held as well. This was Gensler's concept:

Master-Planned Development Could Reshape Houston Site

A towering new master-planned development could be coming to Houston near Rice University in the Texas Medical Center. Though details are currently scarce, a number of images posted online show concepts by two of the world's most notable architecture firms.

The developer purchased the remaining plots of land in December 2015, and two months later, the school announced they would relocate to a property much further south by 2018 as part of a new mixed-use project. Whatever the future holds for this site, it looks like some more details could be expected soon.

Wow I like the first one!

I hope the second design concept doesn't get built, that one looks lame :p

THE SIGN ABOVE announcing the proposed abandonment of the short dead-end stretch of N. Braeswood Blvd. running east of Main St. was captured in situ by a reader over the weekend. The roadway currently serves as the access road for the remaining Saint Nicholas School campus, though the school is planning to be all moved in at that new facility further south along Main St. in about a year and a half. That’ll free up the landf for whatever might be in the works by shell corporation 7200 Main St., which now owns both the school property and the 8-plus-acre tract north of the N. Braeswood segment, former site of barn-shaped restaurant The Stables.

Is this project even still alive?

From Feb 25th, the school on site will close June 2019:

The current SNS campus at 1920 North Braeswood will not be available beginning in June, 2019. The property was sold in 2015 and the owners will be proceeding with development.

The Saint Nicholas School temporarily relocated to 3507 Linkwood, Houston, as of June 3, according to a statement from the school. Its property at 1920 N. Braeswood Blvd., Houston, was acquired by 7200 Main Corp. in 2015, along with adjacent parcels. The pre-kindergarten through eighth grade private school is slated to move into a new campus in 2021.
