Atlanta: Photo of the Day
I saw these really nice aerials on flickr and wasn't sure where to post them so I created a place for random photos.

Thank you for posting these!
I find it amazing to look at pictures of the skyline and consider what has been built in the last 20 years or so...not a long time in the life of a city. For example, in the 2nd photo, with the exception of Colony Square and a few smaller buildings, practically everything in that shot is 'new'! |
VERY NICE.....Love those trees!

Nice views!

Just a few pics from our first blue sky day in a while...
Freedom Pkwy always amazes me...

Here's a good shot of Buckhead's skyline.

I've been lurking here for a long time. I lived in Atlanta from 2000 to 2006. (A year on 26th Street, five years on Peachtree Hills Ave.) I came up to Hyattsville, MD - about two miles from the DC city limits - in August 2006 to go to grad school at U of Maryland in College Park. Because I didn't know the depths of poverty I was about to fling myself into, I thought I'd be able to come back and visit during spring and/or winter breaks. HA! I laugh at myself. All that to say: I haven't been back in Atlanta at all since August 2006 and I wonder if I'm going to recognize the place when I get back.:D In just this shot of Buckhead, I can see at least five projects that weren't there when I left, if you count the one under construction on the far left. When I moved up here, Terminus was three stories of naked floor plates. They weren't even finished with the site work at Sovereign. It was just a deep hole and some retaining walls. I can't believe the absolutely crazy amount of stuff that's gone up in downtown, midtown and Atlantic Station. Ikea had only been open about a year back then (I'm talking about it like it was 35 years ago  ) and they hadn't even started on the Target, let alone the Atlantic and all that other madness over there. Anyway, I just wanted to tell ya'll (that word looks so funny in print) how fantastic it is that there are other people who geek out about construction and development and take all these great pictures. By hanging out on this forum, I've been able to watch the city change from a distance. I'm going straight up the wall with impatience to move back to town. I finished grad school in May, but I chose the worst possible time to get a master's degree in journalism, so the job situation is not pretty. I've been scraping by on temp work at law firms since June, but one of the things I hate about DC is that it's so expensive to live here that you can't afford to leave. (My apartment: 521 sq ft, $860/month). Unless something changes, I should finally be out of here in about six weeks, though. I can't wait! I miss Atlanta SO much. |
Awesome shots!

Man, Buckhead is starting to look nice and dense. Thanks for posting these |
12th & Midtown

Nice! I like how the office building creates a little peak to that little cluster in the skyline.

The city really looks like a giant megapolis from this perspective. |
trainiac & KB0679 - Beautiful shots, thanks so much for sharing.
KB0679 - Did the Fed security bother you? Just wondering. Thanks again, guys! |

I like the photos, too! |

I think it is beautiful, and should serve as an outdoor "living room" for the mile. I know their security is of utmost importance, but the place is built like a fortress and they have their own, deputized Federal police force. I used to work at the Fed when they were still Downtown, and the Fed cops are ALL nice guys & gals - not the type to be overly aggressive, but very serious about their jobs. Just wondering what the situation is at their new location. |

Very refreshing to see Midtown from the west side! 12th & Midtown is an excellent addition.
You know what else would make an incredible picture? A panoramic view of the Buckhead skyline at night. As you drive north on I-85 it's really quite staggering. Maybe those new apartments where the Red Cross used to be would make a good vantage point. If I could walk a little better I'd try it myself. |
Nice Buckhead photo from flickr by a.lavine

The Downtown viaducts is an interesting part of Atlanta's history. It's interesting to see how the layout has changed and changes - very interesting. |
Shot this one a couple days back...

That is a crazy use of zoom!
To me, the building crown sort of looks like some kind of rusting abandoned soviet missile launch pad |

thanks... :) |
i just hit your flickr page to see what you shoot with, expecting to see a dslr. i was pleasantly surprised to find that you used a lumix tz3, the same camera i have. :D (mine's in black) it's a great camera huh? sure i wish it had a fully manual mode, but i've done some cool things with some of the scene modes. (example)
|
Hybrid, you are shooting some fine photos these days.
|
Thanks cybele, I try :). Yes, cabasse it's a great little camera (i went with the classic silver). I agree on manual thing, i've lost a couple of perfect shots due to it's lack but I make the best of what I've got.
Any of you on flickr? My contribution for today (the obligatory Midtown Skyline from Piedmont shot) http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2511/...67ebee06_o.jpg |
|
I absolutely love the above shot, DSGB. You seldom see the midtown/downtown skylines from this angle. Where in Buckhead were you? Good job!
|
hehe, i actually had that bookmarked as a favorite maybe to post in the found city photos thread...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/sheiman/3692634948/ i'm guessing it was probably taken from the jw marriott; here's one on panoramio from wider angle that's got the location marked http://www.panoramio.com/photo/885688 |
I like that picture a lot.
Too bad OSHA had to go and mess up so many great photo ops. Those old Charles Ebbets photos were cool. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2596/...db0a5d77_o.jpg |
^wow atlanta sure tore down a lot!
jk. i did really like this photo however, which includes much of the galleria/vinings skyline. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2609/...e4aefe71_b.jpg sugarparody |
Nice find cabasse but we prefer it being called "Cumberland/Vinings" since Houston's Galleria district is more well known. Anywho... I just took some photos in the Cumberland area over the weekend. Here's one...
