When flying on business we always fly out of YYJ or YWH. The extra travel time, even just a few hours, would eat up any savings. |
YMM (Fort McMurray, Alberta) February 2016 stats:
Total February PAX: 71,080 -21.9% (91,036 in 2015) YTD: 139,009 -26.3% (188,587 in 2015) Looks like YMM is set to dip back below 1M annual passengers this year, with the economy set to get worse (more layoffs). |
YUL (MTL-Trudeau) February passenger stats
1,227,414 (+7.1%) Domestic 438,263 (+7.7%) International 494,065 (+7.6%) Transborder 295 086 (+5.3%) YTD 2,496,720 |

I lived in YXE for a number of years and travelled frequently. On Air Canada there have been connecting passengers from Calgary or Vancouver continuing to Toronto, Ottawa or Winnipeg as well as the opposite. However it is in extremely small numbers. I think it happens more when other flights are full or IROP and more direct options are not available. I think the milk runs are gone with WestJet. However for years there was the London Ontario <-> Winnipeg <-> Saskatoon <-> Calgary <-> Vancouver <-> Prince George flight. Loved that one, usually did the London Ontario to Saskatoon segment. I think WestJet still has the Saskatoon <-> Calgary <-> Victoria flight. I did that a few times. Was weird getting into Calgary and they ask all the continuing passangers to stay on the aircraft. You look around discover there are only two of you. |

Saskatoon is the dominant originator and terminator for northern traffic, no question about that. Otherwise, each airport possess catchment markets of approximately 570,000 people. Each airport possesses similar schedules with the major carriers as well. Regina's ATB is planned for an expansion which would double its pre-existing footprint. Construction is slated for 2018. |
Tunisair now confirmed for Montreal-Tunis starting June 18, twice a week.

These need to be prioritized since these are the highways of the north.
And having flown into most of these locations upgrades to the runways and signaling are a necessity. The only place for the Pang runway is on top of the mountain. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/...airs-1.3508238 |
On October 23, 2013 AC and GTAA signed a comprehensive commercial agreement covering operations at T1. The commercial agreement covered a number of areas including fees paid by AC to GTAA, commitment to enhance customer facilities, and commitment that GTAA give AC a multi-year gate plan that kept pace with AC growth plans and ensured AC growth is not constrained by T1 facilities.
With the expansion of mainline international flights plus the introduction of Rouge, gate and terminal space is at or nearing capacity. Plus there are over capacity issues at the Customs Halls and pre-board security checkpoints. Yesterday Sunwing announced it is moving from T1 to T3 effective May 1 , 2016. Here is the press release: Quote:
While relocating Sunwing doesn't sound like a big deal, this does address gate constraints at T1 in the short term. The longer term, moving Sunwing from T1 to T3 signals a major shift in the GTAA master plan, with AC and T1 pax being the major beneficiaries of the major shift. The 2004 master plan contemplates that as T3 fills up, airlines would have moved over to T1 and the infield terminal reactivated with the busing operation that has been shuttered for about 10 years. Based on the GTAA master plan and the traffic increase at T3, I expected at some point that Air Transat would relocate to T1 with the Infield Terminal becoming a charter terminal. This would have negatively impacted AC pax at the Canada Customs Hall and the Pre-board Security Checkpoint. It also introduced the possibility that Ac or other Star Alliance flights would be gated at the Infield Terminal. Looking at the past winter season, I predict that T3 will have both gate and terminal facility capacity constraints. The major players at T3 will either have to move flight operations outside of peak times or accept a move over to the Infield terminal. The loser in this airline terminal shuffle is clearly WS. Their YYZ terminal just got a bunch busier, and if they don't sign a similar comprehensive commercial agreement with the GTAA, WS flights could be spread out further to the main terminal, T3 Satelite and the Infield Terminal gates. |
they gotta build the new gates at T1.. they are overdue. Stop trying to max out existing capacity and build it.

I think they probably need to finish their current projects first. The airport is a gong show in some areas because of it.
