Nice to see new development....and some more height!
There are now quite a few options being built for residential downtown. This on looks pretty good! I hope it gets built. Will be nice to see some more polished renderings as well. We don't have many of the typical glass and steel condo style buildings in the city, so this one is welcome! |

This is awesome! I've been wondering about the Thomas building too, and was not expecting this kind of announcement this soon (in truth, I figured it would quietly go away to be forgotten, like the former Robinson's and RBC sites on James and so many other lots)

That was the Balfour building. LIUNA saved some pieces of the facade from that one too. They were sitting in a pile behind the Thomas building for awhile. No idea if they still have them or intend to do anything with them though. They didn't save nearly as much of the building as they did from the Thomas building since the Balfour was in pretty crappy shape.

What I'd love even more is if something was built on the corner lot beside the Lister Block. That parking lot is one of the ugliest things in the city. But that's the talk of dreams. It'll be a while before anything ends up in that lot. Just happy something is going in this spot! That stretch between King and James, and Wilson and James needs some life breathed into it.

The city should raise taxes on parking lots. Then these ugly problems would solve themselves.

I really hope the William Thomas units are affordable. Is $250 per sq ft reasonable to expect?

^probably not, $300 is around minimum for condos to pull a profit. $120 - $150 is the usual construction cost ($180-$200 in Toronto)
