Yup. Construction is expected to begin in in mid-2014. It wont hold the title of tallest for long. If all goes well, two more supertalls will be finished by 2018/19. Of course a lot can happen in 4 years. For all we know, something taller might pop up. Lets hope this red hot market continues.

I'll be in Miami next month. Too bad this won't be built by then. I expect the views to be fantastic.

SkyRise Miami Site Work Could Begin In A Month

Quote:

In the "is that hideous thing really getting built?" news of the day, site prep work on the giant R-shaped SkyRise Miami could begin by June, before Federal Aviation Administration height approvals expire on June 12th. Commissioners will vote at a meeting later this week to decide whether or not to let the work begin even though the tower itself has to pass a voter referendum in August or November.

I used to have a money clip that looked a bit like that.

My first thought was ... coolest sliding board ever.

Nothing like a deadline to get things moving. We'll see what happens.

Article in the Miami Today:

The placement of three pilings at the edge of a waterfront parking lot in downtown Miami will represent the official start of construction of a $430 million observation tower.

And after an affirmative vote May 8, developer Jeff Berkowitz can have that work commence, the first step toward construction of a 1,000-foot-tall playground called SkyRise Miami.

Last week the Miami City Commission approved a resolution authorizing foundation work to begin on the development.

Mr. Berkowitz was asking for approval to begin preliminary work now so he can maintain height approval from the Federal Aviation Administration, which expires June 12 unless work has commenced.

Good to see this one on the road! I think this will be great for Miami! :)

Earagon May 15, 2014 1:47 PM

Well, its not a done deal, they just need to do something before the June 12th deadline set by FAA. I'm praying and hoping this gets built. We need an Iconic tower in Miami.

chris08876 May 23, 2014 11:51 AM

Good thing that its on track. It should be interesting watching this rise.

This could be the "Eiffel Tower" of Miami...

Onn May 23, 2014 1:44 PM

It's a great project I think. It can't be bad tourism.

MiamiSpartan May 24, 2014 2:45 AM

Being located right next to Port Miami, this thing should be filled daily with people....

WonderlandPark May 24, 2014 3:38 AM

Kinda ugly but tall.

chris08876 May 27, 2014 8:13 PM

The NIMBYS are out in full force against this.

Here is a NIMBY website with some of thier views on skyrise. Warning, if you are eating soup, don't, as you might puke in it because of their stupidity.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to appreciate that if this deal goes through as currently structured, Bayside Marketplace and General Growth Partners would receive tens of millions of dollars in payments from Berkowitz’s company and NOT ONE PENNY of that money would go to the City of Miami and the taxpayers who own this waterfront property. The citizens would get screwed royally, and without the benefit of lubricant.

This is such a nasty deal for the City of Miami that you’ve got to believe that it was calculatingly done this way because there was every expectation that they believed they could get away with it, which in turn as I said above says a whole lot about the level of disrespect that General Growth Partners and their lawyers hold for the administration of Tomas Regalado.

Zapatan May 27, 2014 9:28 PM

Nice!

Hopefully this won't be tallest for long.
