Lakeport City, NC

This is a city i have started on July 3rd, it is a fictional city, but it is based on multiple cities, BTW check out some of my other models,I've made cities before, but not as detailed as this one, in case you are wondering the city is split into neghborhoods, and there is two boroughs, Lakeport and Century.

This

I dont build just cities, I build art on 4 wheels. Link to my Sketchup models: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehou...1172&scoring=m

Here is the first preview of the downtown skyline, and the Century Bridge.

Nice! Very nice scraper-mass, looks a bit like Manhattan.
In any case, please post more pics of it in this thread! :) Thanks

Looking good, the skyline has a strong Manhattan feel to it. Give us a closer look!

I will add more to the city in the future, and i will also upload the city to the warehouse in large sections. Does anyone know of any sites to find photo-real textures of buildings, this city will contain around 50-60 large skyscrapers, and 300-400 low rise buildings, and a fully textured road system with highways.

Lakeport has a population of 2,700,000 in its metropolitan area.
Lakeport is not based on New York City, it is loosely modeled on Minneapolis and Saint Paul, MN and the surrounding areas. Please send feedback on the city. I have to redesign the entire landscape, and road network, so pictures wont be available for a while. the entire metropolitan area is going to be modeled on a 50 x 50 Mile grid. with a river or two running through it.

Well, you really have big plans for this city, I hope to see them realized. I don't know of any sites to get good photo-real textures, but the best way is to make them yourselves. That's also the slowest and hardest way...

I like the skyline, it's neat looking.

I know two websites that are about textures. http://www.amazingtextures.com/ and http://www.cgtextures.com/. That is where I get mine. And please check out my city, it's called Remus city.

50 x 50 mile grid is 2500 sq miles, gonna be a small amount of work then. Seriously I admire your enthusiasm, if you maybe focussed on the downtown part and then just made simple blocks for the surrounding area that would probably be the best way forward.

CGtextures have good texture resources, free to use for non commercial work - my fav website!

Codster121 Nov 26, 2013 7:15 AM

I thought 50 x 50 miles was a bit too big myself, considering the city is going to be about the size of Minneapolis and St Paul combined. I'm rebuilding the land of the city anyway so I can make a more dense and realistic downtown area. I also find it a bit annoying to build highway ramps, and I am going to expand the population to 4.4 million. Is there a quick and easy way to make highway ramps?

Patrick Nov 26, 2013 6:43 PM

Highway ramps eek, I have yet to really try them yet, I have an idea in my head but I've really been avoiding doing it for Staunton. I'll let you know how it goes once I try to make the expressway!

You have anything you can show us yet? :)

There is a Sketchup plugin called Curviloft which makes it pretty easy to create ramps, you just make 2 faces and it connects them dynamically.

Here is an update of lakeport city, the city is located in the North eastern corner of Minnesota and was founded in 1871, it grew faster than any other city in MN, until 1927, when the Great Depression hit, which put the brakes on development until 1939,there was a great population boom which in 1945 to 1989 the population of the city rose from 167,967 to 557,353. An then there was the second boom, launching the population from 601,650 in 1991 to 3.7 million in 2009, the city has a dense skyscraper mass in the core, and will have a mixture of mid and low height buildings going for about a few miles before suburban neighborhoods, and farm land beyond the suburbs, Here are the pictures:

The city also has a full highway network:

There will be more updates soon... i have to many addicting projects i am working on...but i will try to work on Lakeport the most, as it is one of the largest cities i am making.

The skyline looks great from far away.

Vellu Jan 18, 2014 7:45 PM

Nicely thought out history! I'd like to see a tour of the landmark buildings: what they are, how they look and what's their place in this city's history. From afar it looks like this city has a lot of interesting buildings so I'd like to take a closer look.

BillM Jan 22, 2014 1:53 PM

I'm looking forward to seeing Lakeport City develop. Does the river feed into lake Superior?

Patrick Jan 24, 2014 6:54 PM

Great stuff! It's nice to see that you have so much planned for Lakeport, I'm dieing for some closeups!

Codster121 Feb 23, 2014 10:12 PM

I have some new pictures, closeups this time, showing my newest buildings:

The building in the center is a 36 story, 374ft apartment building, named Lancer Tower, heavily modeled off Loring Park tower in Minneapolis.
http://i1361.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4fc280ee.png

My favorite so far is Costello Plaza, it has 3 buildings, Costello 1 is the largest one standing at 850ft, My architectural masterpiece: http://i1361.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9b458a6b.png
And here is the other side, with the two ugly little buildings. :(

Codster121 Feb 23, 2014 10:17 PM

I almost forgot about the skyline.
