Dac150 Jul 30, 2007 9:43 PM

Looks nice. I would suggest though not putting domestic shingles on skyscrapers.

Dac150 Jul 30, 2007 10:31 PM

It was on the building which you took out of the city. Nevermind.

However, it seems that all of your cities are the same in looks. If I were you I would put all focus on one city. Otherwise it appears like it's the same city only with a different name. Don't take it the wrong way.

Thats just tile, made to look like glass.

.
This is based on my previos city(SF). Trinity is just sorta their. When I get bored of one city I just start anither. Your comment is appreciated.

Patrick Jul 31, 2007 3:33 AM

Yeah, I agree with Dac150. Stick with ONE CITY. Not to be rude, but all of your three cities look exactly the same :(

I suggest sticking to one city, Staunton took me a full year to come to where it is! If the preformance gets too slow then take out the people cars and trees, as they slow down Sketchup's preformance quite a bit.

Austin55 Jul 31, 2007 3:53 AM

:previous: yeah I know:( Im going for more detail thi time, aswell as architecture.:(

Mocholate Jul 31, 2007 4:58 AM

the new building is pretty neat

i reckon you could join all 3 cities together without much load on the PC , what are the file sizes?

Peter Jul 31, 2007 5:00 AM

I also agree with Dac.

It's better to have one great city than a few okay ones. Otahita is my first and only city so far. I am not going to work on it for a while now though. That doesn't mean I won't do some other SketchUp projects on the side. :)

Something else, which I'm sure I've mentioned before, is repeationg the same textures. It's starting to get out of hand actually. Seriously, you gotta get some more textures! Not trying to be mean, just lettin you know :) (though I'm sure you knew anyways...)

Austin55 Jul 31, 2007 5:03 AM

:( I know,sf is sorta a learning expeirence

were? the two red brivk building have changed,I demoned one

Why'd you take that building that looks like the Philadelphia/Chicago/San Diego Buildings, it was fine!

Is that an Otahita billboard i see?

Austin55 Jul 31, 2007 6:04 AM

Hehe... Palm Dunes:

Midtown - 65 MB

I just dont understand how Midtown Palm Dunes is 65 MB while Staunton + Jefferson is 39MB.

Mocholate Jul 31, 2007 8:50 AM

phweeew , mine is only 23mb

Lol, I made a terrible rhyme to explain this:

Remember your Ts, textures and trees!

Mocholate Jul 31, 2007 10:02 AM

:haha:'Snoop fox' best to stick to sexy buildings :P

it's really weird . 1 'Aspen' tree is 90 kb , but 6 of the same tree only takes the file to 108 kb

edit: i mean with 6 trees- the model slows down so much when the file is only 18kb larger

FREKI Jul 31, 2007 10:09 AM

Sweet!

CGII Jul 31, 2007 2:47 PM

Ha, City City I was 150 MB, and CCII is already 80 MB, and I haven't gotten South of downtown yet. The hills take up a lot more space than you think.

Mocholate Jul 31, 2007 3:04 PM

:previous: yeah , tell me about it :haha: thats part of the reason i ditched my first city (apart from it was crap) the hills added about 20mb , and they looked shithouse anyway

your hills are nicely done and worth it though

Peter Jul 31, 2007 4:43 PM

Wow. Everyone's filesizes are huge. Otahita is only 10.6 MB, yet the layout is gargtuan (18 miles across), about 36 moderately detailed buildings, all with different textures, plus a wind farm, a massive grid, two very detailed bridges, not to mention the long freeway. Yet it's only 10.6 MB. How the? Maybe because there's so few trees.

Mocholate Jul 31, 2007 4:52 PM

i think it may have something to do with PC specs , i know that if your PC uses 'MS-Vista' you need to have a more powerfull computer to run sketchup properly , maybe that has something to do with it?

My hills aren't 'hills,' per se, more like inclined roads that give the illusion thereof. ;)

The file size doesn't have anything to do with the physical size of the model, only the complexity (number of faces, polys). Think that City City II is probably about 150-200 detailed buildings and bridges right now, plus geography and vegetation.

Austin55 Jul 31, 2007 9:03 PM

just an update, including the historical waterfront,
http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...55/texture.png
I am working on some new Texts. to! any comments?

foxmtbr Jul 31, 2007 9:11 PM

It looks awesome!

Patrick Jul 31, 2007 9:16 PM

It must be the textures, the bigger they are, the more space they take up? Honsely Staunton's textures are very small, and dont look too good up close.

Austin55 Jul 31, 2007 9:21 PM

Thanks! weird thing is,the only sighn of lag is shadows,an textures going away, which i just started doing:banana: Im going to base it of san franssco.
