I see that PAL quietly dropped YOW-YFC but increased YOW-YQM to 5x weekly ops X36. Most flights are on the DH4 with a few DH3s sprinkled in. Also the flights no longer stop at YDF but a connection at YQM to YDF is now offered. YYT is now same-plane 1-stop service to match Porter.

PAL continue to serve YFC but with that DH1 that goes to YDF via YQM and meets up with the YOW flight to connect to YYT. YOW connections to/from YFC aren’t possible.

This was noted on another forum, but it appears WS might be dropping YYZ-LGW at the end of October?

They are only selling full-fare J W Y class bookings after October 29th, even right into next summer.

If so, does this mean they'll transfer the use of that slot over to YVR in the winter?

Both routes started end of March 2022 for them.

Economic reality catching up with them?

Will see & should be interesting when WestJet Winter Schedule is finalized.

I think it’s a good possibility that WestJet does Vancouver to London Gatwick LGW for this upcoming winter.

Man, the media here is just blasting Pearson. Interviewing people who spent 4-5 days in the airport trying to get here and gave up and went back wherever they came from.

And I have a personal connection to one. The woman who owned this house before me (NYC-based artist, lived here for 12 years, still wishes she could live in two places at once so she wouldn't have to sell this place haha). She left NY without an issue, two days at the airport in Canada - DAYS - and considered just going home but waited it out (she's coming to volunteer at our folk festival as she did when she lived here). She's finally here, sans luggage. She has a tag on it that she can see on her phone and it's still at Pearson lol

It reminds me of... I think it was January? When St. John's could basically only land private planes due to a labour dispute, and we were all "How can it reach this point in a developed country?" And then Pearson was like "Hold my beer..." lol

*****

Also, couple of recent pics from my trip to HFX. I can't control the weather, sorry, I didn't do this on purpose lol

This is my third summer in a row where I've had a vacation flight to YHZ booked and I was certain it was finally going to happen this year as I pack for departure on Friday, but now I have my doubts :haha:

90 minute stop in YYZ on the way there, 60 minutes at YUL on the way back. Seems iffy.

I can live with an overnight stop in YYZ but if it gets too messed up and I can't get an onward connection, I guess it just might suddenly become a trip to southern Ontario instead of NS/NB/PEI.

Given the mess at Pearson they might regret it!

This is starting to become a theme. If I remember correct Prince George airport also has substantial structural wood elements to it.

I think it makes for a warmer feeling. Love the ceiling in those renderings. We should see more of that in public buildings in BC.

YOW has a lot of reclaimed BC wood in the southern wing of the terminal.

Emirates and Air Canada Form Strategic Partnership

Quote:

Dubai, UAE, July 12, 2022 – Emirates and Air Canada today announced the signing of a strategic partnership agreement that will create more options for customers when travelling on the carriers’ networks while also enhancing the customer experience throughout the journey.

Emirates and Air Canada intend to establish a codeshare relationship later in 2022 that will offer enhanced consumer travel choices for Air Canada customers to travel to the United Arab Emirates and to destinations beyond Dubai. Emirates customers will also enjoy an enhanced travel experience when travelling to Toronto or to key destinations across the Air Canada network. Customers will have the ability to book connecting travel between both airlines’ networks with the ease of a single ticket, seamless connectivity at the carriers’ respective global hubs and baggage transfers to their final destinations.

Sir Tim Clark, President Emirates Airline said: “This is a significant partnership that will enable our customers access to even more destinations in Canada and the Americas, via our Toronto and US gateways. It also opens up many new route combinations for travelers across Emirates’ and Air Canada’s extensive networks in the Americas, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. We are pleased to partner with Air Canada, one of North America’s most established airlines and Canada’s flag carrier and we look forward to jointly progressing on various areas to provide even better customer flight choices and experiences.”

"As we continue pursuing our strategy of expanding our global reach in response to growing opportunities in VFR markets (Visit Friends and Relatives) that serve Canada’s large multicultural communities, we are very pleased to form a strategic partnership with Emirates, a highly respected flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates with a hub in the vibrant city of Dubai. This strategic agreement will create network synergies, and Air Canada customers will have additional, convenient options when travelling between Canada and the United Arab Emirates as well as destinations beyond Dubai" said Michael Rousseau, President and Chief Executive Officer at Air Canada. "We look forward to introducing Air Canada codeshare service on key Emirates flights, as well as adding the EK code on select Air Canada flights, and welcoming Emirates customers on our services later this year."

To further enhance the customer experience, the carriers will also establish reciprocal frequent flyer benefits and reciprocal lounge access for qualifying customers. Further details of the partnership and specific codeshare routes will be announced when finalized and will be subject to regulatory approvals and final documentation.

Definitely a push to capture more of the Indian, Pakistan, and Bangladesh market for AC as Canada has a large Diaspora here.
Wonder if this means we will see future Dubai flights from either AC or EK in Vancouver or Calgary, or AC moving to Terminal 1 in Dubai.
