YVR-DFW YVR-SAN YVR-SJC Not sure about express routes from other airports. YVR-DFW is also removed W21, so perhaps it's permanently cancelled. |
Looks like AC backtracked and re-opened bookings on a few routes to France.
YUL-NCE YUL-BOD YUL-TLS YUL-MRS Additionally YYZ/YUL-BCN have been removed until January now. (All from @theaeronetwork) https://twitter.com/theaeronetwork/s...99696007184385 Also curious if with the current vaccination rates in the US/Canada, if we could even see if a few Transborder routes to leisure destinations re-opened as well? |
Since the European regulators failed to approve the AC/TS transaction by the February 15 deadline, either company can walk away from the deal, upon notice to the other party. Transat has been informed by Air Canada that they will not agree to an extension of the deadline. Meanwhile, the European decision is expected in the first half of 2021 (by June).
Transat, it seems, has a plan B - and a plan C - if ever the AC merger doesn't happen. At this rate, there is a decent chance AC walks away from the deal. I think the only reason they haven't is to prevent TS from entering into talks with competitors such as Peladeau or Onex. As long as the AC/TS deal is still on the table, TS is forbidden from entertaining competing offers. https://montrealgazette.com/business...nue-plunges-94 On a related note, TS plans to resume flying in June. And according to Annick Guérard, COO of the company, they love the performance of their A321LRs and might possibly order more, including the XLR. Link in french only. https://www.lesailesduquebec.com/air...-en-veut-plus/ Pre-COVID, their fleet was 39. It will go down to 27 by next winter season. All A321/A330, except for one lone B738, which is on permanent lease. Negotiations are ongoing to terminate that lease ASAP. Needless to say that frame won't be flying commercially with TS. Check out the stark contrast between AC's March 2020 vs March 2021 non-sun international route maps.

^ nice to see YYC is still on the map, all alone, waiting for some lines to connect to it....lol
|
^:haha: Next week will mark a full year since Air Canada has operated a long haul international flight from YYC.
I think FRA will resume at some point this year, but LHR is questionable. |
Worth noting that while the Trudeau government continues to dither on aid to Canada's airlines, the $1.9 trillion pandemic relief bill Joe Biden just signed contains the following for US aviation (that had already received aid in 2020):
The pandemic relief bill that President Biden signed Thursday afternoon will protect tens of thousands of aviation jobs, providing a lifeline to an industry that is likely to struggle for some time even as vaccinations accelerate. After Congress this week approved the legislation, which includes $14 billion for airlines and an additional $9 billion for airports and other businesses, American Airlines and United Airlines told 27,000 employees that they could ignore the furlough notices they had received in recent weeks. The airlines had issued the warnings, which are legally required in advance of sweeping cuts, as they prepared to carry out the furloughs at the end of this month when an earlier round of federal aid expired. The new bill extends that assistance through September....(bold mine) https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/11/b...line-jobs.html |
Here's also AC's March/April 2021 domestic/transborder map:
Unfortunately I could find a comparison to last year. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EwOjsTzV...name=4096x4096 |
On this map, YQM is connected to as many destinations as YOW is 2. Incredible.

BOD is possible on a 7M8 like it had always been planned. |
WS filed an updated schedule in OAG until May 4th. Limited Transborder schedule remains, minus HNL. (Weekly flights to PSP, RSW, OGG 2x weekly to PHX)
Looks like they're *currently* planning to resume CUN, PVR, SJD and MBJ from May 1st? Interestingly YYC-OGG got extended into May as well. That route usually ends its season the third week of April. |
Looks like AC mappers need a remedial geography lesson on where Ottawa actually is.
|
AC appears to have loaded additional long haul changes for S21. I see YYC-LHR removed until July 1st, and YYC-FRA scheduled to resume June 2 3x weekly.
---- On another note, in contrast to the AC maps posted above here is WS March 14-May 4 Transborder/International network vs. what was scheduled during the same period pre-COVID: https://i.imgur.com/cAiM5OB.gif https://i.imgur.com/fErl0Y3.jpg |

Probably meaningless, but WS appears on LHR's terminal finder and shows a 12:10 arrival from YYC on WS060 when searching through June & July dates. This is similar to how people are speculating JetBlue is about to announce LHR flights themselves. This could be just like last winter, where they got ad-hoc slots for summer that another airline returned. Guess we'll see what happens. |
