It is totally copied from Wikipedia, but it reinforces my point. They have had issues on various fronts, from the DC-10s, to schedule reliability, to fleet issues, to warnings from airports on both sides of the Atlantic. It was never just the mistaken FAA thing. As recently as Jan 2020 they had to suspend New York, so that's current and outside the DC-10 thing.

This wasn't supposed to be an argument, just that this particular airline has had issues with different routes in the past for various reasons, and this all of a sudden announcement may or may not be as concrete as you make it seem

Heard Porter is getting ready to start up again, then end of August early September

New mask rules in effect today. Must wear a mask at all times after security. Except in restaurants. However YVR only has a curry /rice and noodle place and a Tims open this morning. YEG had 2 sit down restaurants and they had take out coffee. Also noticed only an Air France flight at the international side.

Definitely more travelers this week. YEG security staff had more lines open

Check out the YVR thread for all the international action and there has been lots.

There was more last time through but still shocking to see all the empty gates. One good sign. Most of the parked big jets are gone or moved.

I guess it was just your timing then. Johnny reported over 20 heavies during yesterday's operations. Both Atlantic and Pacific action.

United resumes operations to Canada today with flights to YYZ, YUL, YVR and YYC.

KLM will be back in YVR & YYC later this week, followed by YUL next week.

Some of that could have been cargo flights which won't go to a gate or show up on the terminal FIDS.

Ah could be? Johnny would know for sure.

Most of those are cargo flights. And some of them are just fuel stops, such as Air Tahiti and Air France, and soon French Bee. So even though it's movements for the airport, the terminal building doesn't get to benefit from those flights. Just the fueling company at YVR, and the spotters.....;)

Explaining why Airboy saw an empty terminal and only 2 or 3 concession stands open.

Johnny doesn't know shit. He's opening FR24 and telling you what flights he sees to/from YVR. He doesn't know which intl flights have pax on them, and which ones dont. The vast majority don't, at least not to/from YVR anyway.

AFAIK, even for fuel stop, passengers are allowed to leave the plane and walk or go to the washroom in the terminal building within the holding area. Not sure if there are any shop within the holding area though...

Sure, I guess. Assuming that’s the case, let me rephrase....

The terminal building sees minimal benefit from those flights.

Definite uptick in travellers today at YYC. I departed out of the B concourse this morning and it was busy and crowded and the flight I was on had quite a lot of passengers!

Indeed.

International terminal is being partially re-opened this week. More transborder gates and concourse D re-opened.

Only surprise is that WS is checking in Transborder flights at it's domestic check-in. I guess it doesn't make since to open the int'l check in for just 1-3 flights.

Here we go. Or should I say Off We Go.

The new airline coming to Canada. Well an old airline with a new division.

Strange name but love the livery. I sure hope Nolinor's new sun routes division takes off and expands beyond Quebec eventually.

Well, there are two ways to look at this.

1. Another small airline wanting market share in an already crowded market from Quebec to southern destinations.

or.

2. AC just permanently retired 79 aircraft. If the recovery from COVID is sharper than expected, AC wont be able to cover all the demand from Quebec to the south in the short/medium term. So a small airline with a handful of B737s might just be able to carve itself a niche in the market.

Air Canada 'retired' most of those aircraft. They aren't actually gone as of yet, and it's been said that if demand returns, some of them will as well.

Even then, if AC wants to find aircraft to lease on the market for the short-term there is tons of availability.

I'd be very surprised if this new venture gets any traction.

COVID is still an advantage according to them.

A good read, although in french.

https://www.lapresse.ca/affaires/202...medium=twitter

Also, like several people on airliners said, the difference between Nolinor and Flair/Canada Jetlines is that the former is an established airline that is currently flying.

Acquiring a couple of B734s is a cheap affair for them. This new venture presents minimal risk, as they are dipping their toes to see how the market reacts. If it doesn't work, they can use those B734s for their current operations and ad-hoc charters.

While Flair struggled with Alberta-Sun routes due to the B734s range, Quebec-Sun won't be an issue. They also wont have any issues securing gates at YUL. If COVID hadn't happened, they would have never been able to secure contact gates at YUL during peak times.

So again, COVID does have it's advantages.

I liked what I saw at YVR, AC was using the central location on the international side to do domestic and international.
