It's the same font

A big "meh" from me.

I just don't get the black, personally. It doesn't say "Canada" to me, and I think that is what AC was hoping to do with the whole #Flytheflag bit.

The old livery was pretty decent looking IMO. Maybe a touch bland, but classy.

Now, Air New Zealand with black livery makes sense.

Tyler Brûlé of Wallpaper fame I believe.

I don't care for the black, very severe and not really a colour one associates with Canada or Air Canada.

Someone said they're removing the Air Canada Express logo from the Beachcraft 1900Ds. Why would that be?

Severing their relationship with Exploit Valley Air Services and limiting their operations with Air Georgian (two companies that run the 1900Ds under contract to Air Canada Express), maybe?

I wonder if that means routes will be cut?

I could see smaller routes going one of two ways - either Jazz will pick them up with Q100s or they'll be handed back to EVAS/Air Georgian to run under their own branding (like Provincial Airlines in Newfoundland or Bearskin in Northern Ontario).

If I'm not mistaken, AC pays a fixed cost for each subcontracted route, regardless of the number of passengers it carries on any particular flight. I guess AC figured that chasing the 19-passenger market just wasn't worth it - might as well cede the market to smaller fish.

Maybe someone with better connections/understanding of the business could correct me here.

Team Canada hockey has used black as a jersey colour a few times.

I'm a fan of the new livery. It's an evolution on the nineties look. New uniforms are nice as well. I have really not liked the toothpaste tube livery of the last few years.

Major change to the logo. The branch at the bottom of the maple leaf is now much more natural than in years past.

I like the new Colors !

Pinus Feb 10, 2017 8:03 AM

It looks like the former Canadian Airlines colour scheme.

I associate Air Canada with a cold, dead, black heart - works for me. The severity matches their customer service.

But seriously, I don't hate it. The red/white only was too weightless, provincial. This new livery is old-fashioned, but attractively so - like the Winnipeg police's black/white vehicles and uniforms. It doesn't scream Canada, and it's basic, but it's better than before.

esquire Feb 10, 2017 3:18 PM

Red and white is "provincial"?! Really, SHH?

An evolved version of their 70s livery could look pretty nice. And AC was in pretty good company with the red and white... there are some nice ones, these among them.

I think this is some sort of fan art thing, but I'd have loved to see AC adopt something along the lines of the topmost one shown here, sort of a modernized retro look

The Austrian one isn't bad. The shadow under the logo on the front and tail seems to work but that could go tacky. The Swiss one is great, but boring. The 70s one is the best out of that Air Canada lot (wow, they've had a lot of awful ones), but I do prefer the new one better.

Our provincial airline (literally called Provincial Airlines) also has a provincial livery. :haha: They're just too... early 2000s small chain coffee house.

"Provincial Airlines Airlines", via FB. Did someone try to draw a dick on that tail? How do airplanes end up anywhere they could get graffitied?

We'll take that for 2016!

Just FYI all those other 70s ones are from predecessor airlines that eventually somehow merged into AC.

For what it's worth, I don't think that PAL's livery is bad at all... it's simple and clean in a way that suggests they just didn't want to spend a lot of money on paint, but somehow the whole thing still comes together in a minimalist-nice way. The typeface is very good.

whatnext Feb 10, 2017 4:13 PM

In celebration of their 80th AC really needs to ain't a retro livery using CP's Big Orange from the Seventies. One of the best ever!
