Remus city, A fictional city!
I've started creating my own fictional city, named Remus city:)
Here is a street level view. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3677b6cd.jpg And here is a birds eye view. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5cfda503.jpg Thats all I have had time to make so far, but I'm planning a world trade center, a world financial center and a world stock exchange! as well as a mile high building! Please tell me what you think, and where can I get some more textures? please. |
good start! I'll be waiting for more pics. BTW here you can find some textures, hope it's helpful.
http://www.cgtextures.com/ |
Thanks! Now here is an update on Remus city.
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps77d6dd88.jpg The building on the left is four hundred and fifty feet tall, the one in the middle is five hundred and sixty eight feet tall and the huge blue one is one thousand and sixty feet tall! Those other small buildings are just filler. Here is another birds eye view. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps995a8c72.jpg And here is a street level view, looking up at the buildings on the left. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3ae3b8e2.jpg Thats it for now, I've got big plans for this city, I hope I can make it about the size of New York city! |
It's good the see another city in here. The start looks promising. What is the size of those blocks? They look a bit small.
There's nice variation in the building shapes, but I suggest that you give some buildings more masonry facades. All the buildings seem to have a lot of glass surface. |
^^^
Well It's going to be a modern city, and I don't have any good masonry textures right now anyway, but I'm looking. Anyway I've added some new buildings since I don't have anything to do on Saturdays. And the blocks north of the park are going to be smaller. Birds eye view. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5d1b8e3a.jpg The connected buildings are a hospital complex. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psa7be26d7.jpg The street wall, I really like this. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psd217cc36.jpg Thats all for now. Thanks for the comments people:) |
Ok so I've made the world trade center. It's made up of six buildings, the first one is one thousand eight hundred and twenty six feet tall including the spire.
The second building is one thousand two hundred feet tall. The other buildings are much smaller then the big two. Oh yea the huge one has an observation deck:) http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psd1048a98.jpg A view of the skyline. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps019f1c23.jpg And A view looking up. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps444fc0e4.jpg Well what do you all think? |
i like it,especially the tall one
|
Well I went and made the world financial center and the world stock exchange!
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8f96c33c.jpg The tallest of the three world financial center buildings is the one with the narrow roof, it is one thousand three hundred feet tall. The building on the top left is the world stock exchange. Now for the skyline. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4ab25356.jpg And here is the view of someone standing among the huge complex looking up. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps475aa0a0.jpg Oh! I forgot to tell that the building in the center of this photo is a hotel with an open lobby. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psae5eba13.jpg And here is the lobby:) http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psa9948eba.jpg Well that's all for now. By the way my city blocks are two hundred feet square, should they be bigger or smaller? and by how much? Thanks for looking:tup: |
I like it! That's good geometry. I see you made the smaller buildings first to keep scale.
Reminds me of someone... :) |
I've done some more buildings:) I have to go to school tomorrow, so this may be the last update till Saturday:(
Here is the city hall on the left and the city court house on the right. The building in the middle is based on a real building near where I live. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2df04da8.jpg Here is a new section of the city that I made. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1eb4edb3.jpg Here is a view from the back. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8a6e1aa4.jpg With the big buildings done, most of the rest will be average sized towers until I do the mile tall one. So thats it for now, please tell me what you think. |
good progress, i specially like that pointy yellow building, kind of 30's artdeco and the city hall is pretty good too. ThosE ebuildings look very small near the WTC ! haha, BTW i think you should choose a different texture for it (the wtc), a texture with more frames and floors would be better.
|
Well I've got a BIG update on Remus city today:D
This thousand foot residential building has a new texture. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psa77106ef.jpg The skyline is now huge:tup: And I think the dip is neet. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8544932f.jpg My thousand foot tall art-deco building has an outdoor observation deck! (note the fence is not broken, Photobucket just screwed up my picture:() http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps26c409b2.jpg Here is the downtown collage. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps77035837.jpg I'm planning a very special building for this block near my fancy modern tower. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps88741fd5.jpg And I almost forgot the small businesses with prime downtown locations. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2fdff30b.jpg Oh yea that huge gray square is how big downtown will be, if my computer holds up I'm going to make the rest of the city too. Well thats all, tell me what you think please. |
i like it
|
Ok so I've added many new buildings to Remus city:)
The skyline. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psb1bfc74f.jpg The special thirty story library:D http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9975cf4c.jpg This cool building is one thousand four hundred feet tall! http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps485985e6.jpg The city has twelve urban farm towers. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps645724c3.jpg And here are two urban canyons. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psdf7f1774.jpg The second. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psa75023ea.jpg Please tell me what you think. And does anyone have any suggestions for the rest of downtown? |
This city is growing fast! I like how you also mix in older style buildings. In my opinion it makes the city more interesting.
Street level shots are a good they to present a city in a realistic looking way, so I suggest you give the bases of the buildings a bit more detail to get more life in those street level scenes. |
I've done some more of the city on the weekend, but Photobucket is giving me trouble so I don't know if I will be able to post any more for some time.
Here is the new area, the tapering buildings are banks. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...pse90f4bf9.jpg I've made a sky park on top of this building. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps91deb97e.jpg I really like the palm trees and went a bit overboard with how many models of them I have now. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps42cc53e9.jpg Here is a nice palm tree in the park:) http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps332b0a46.jpg Well thats all, tell me what you think. |
awsome!
|
Alright! so I have more buildings in the city now!
The skyline. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps46de561e.jpg Some new exotic shape buildings. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...pse0956590.jpg These buildings are shorter so that sunlight can get to the sky farms.http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psa467f0ff.jpg Here is a neat view. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9a480dc7.jpg Although I do like citys and towers, my true passion is trees! http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps58d8520d.jpg A nice palm tree. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1deae532.jpg This is a Norfolk island pine, I have a small one in a pot! http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0b4ffe67.jpg Well thats all for now. Does anyone have any suggestions for where I should put the mile tall super tower? I'm thinking in the back of downtown to the left. |
Your enthusiasm really shows, that's good! I suggest you try to add more variation to the shapes, sizes and facades of the buildings, otherwise you're running the risk of it becoming too monotonous. The green areas you've added of course help in that matter.
|
Like Vellu said, I think that you should add some more variation and break up the boxy buildings. Also I think Remus is in need of a central square/park  I like the 1WTC-esque building!
|
Remus city has many new buildings.
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psdf735121.jpg On the left is Grand central station. On the right are two banks, one old style and one new style. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...pscd94c9eb.jpg A new sky park, I'm not going to make very many of these. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps255630a3.jpg I've decided to make at least part of downtown more open and less dense. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps28f6be65.jpg This building has an opening in the top, I don't really know what this is really called. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps68655315.jpg Gasp! Is that a parking lot in the middle of downtown? http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8a13ed62.jpg I'm going to put the mile tall super building here is this square, what do you guys think? is that a good place? http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psa1320844.jpg Well thats all, what do you think? |
You've added more variation to the skyline. That's good. That old style bank building is especially to my liking. About the mile high building: maybe you should make a rough model of it and try different places where it could fit to find the best location for a balanced skyline.
|
I've finely found a new texture that I like for my mega complex.
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7f15d5c4.jpg Birds view. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps869b2d8f.jpg I have not the time to make very many buildings this week. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5d6d65ec.jpg Small buildings. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psa9e1bd42.jpg And now I'm thinking about restarting Remus city, does anyone think I should or should I just keep working on what I have so far? |
I've restarted Staunton 8 times now, I can definitely say it was worth it
|
Remus city restart!
Remus city has been reborn!
I've restarted my city, now I have wider streets and sidewalks! I'm changing the layout of the city somewhat. And I'm planing a river, shopping district north of downtown, theater district south of downtown, a smaller secondary business district across the river and since this city is the fictional twin of Rome, an ancient district with roman-like buildings! Here is all that I have done so far, the mile tall tower is going right in the middle.http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...pscac1e701.jpg The Grand central station is right next to the mega complex, which makes more sense. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps996efd4a.jpg The buildings north of the park have been improved, but with the wider streets some buildings are gone. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8f19514a.jpg Here is a view from the park(I will make the park fancy) http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps48936e43.jpg Well thats it! I'm not going to copy the old buildings into the new file, the city blocks are different so they will not fit. If fact the world trade center has been made a little thinner and sixty feet taller:D Please tell me what you think, I've learned a lot from the first Remus city, and have great plans! |
Looking forward to seeing this edition develop. The blocks on the short side of the park look very small. You should consider combining them to make it look more realistic. My favorite building so far is the one in the middle of the short side of the park; it has a nice, slender shape.
|
Ok so I'm now redoing the financial district.
Here is a birds view, showing the main streets. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psbcbc354a.jpg Here is a diagram of the tallest buildings, I'm salvaging them from version one.http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8ac851fa.jpg Here are the building I have transferred so far, they are banks. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psd644c9c2.jpg Here is a view where you can see the new buildings. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2874eae3.jpg Here are some small businesses. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8d3bff7c.jpg Here is the skyline:) http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps07aecc01.jpg Well thats all for now,I'm going to do one section at a time;) |
I agree with Vellu - those blocks look way too small, combining them would def enhance the realism.
I also suggest putting in more pre-war buildings, where is Remus located anyways? I see palm trees so if it's on the west coast then the modern to pre-war building ratio seems about right. |
very good! im waiting to see that park!
|
I have finished the first section of downtown, before I do the next I'm doing the park and finishing the cathedral.
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1d28247e.jpg Here is the city's largest bank, it is seven hundred and eighty feet tall! That whole street is going to be lined with banks large and small. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psd516569a.jpg Not every building can be a super-tall;) http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps08f2797c.jpg Her is the next section I'm doing after the park and church, I hope to have my sky-farms there. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps74b71096.jpg Well my class is tomorrow, so I may not have time fore Remus city until Friday. |
I've started the park!
I wanted to put frogs in my pond, but I cant find any models that I like. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0148cb44.jpg Here is a rare plant that can grow almost sixty feet tall in the pond! ( it's not real, its only in Remus city) http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps04cc7c5b.jpg Here are some of the plants near the pond. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps445943f7.jpg Here is a very old oak tree:) http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psbf17b856.jpg Here is an unusually large pine tree. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps139566d0.jpg I would love to walk around a place like this! http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4a78d8f5.jpg All those palm trees:D http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps37064966.jpg Here is the much smaller pond. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4e3d6059.jpg Another part of the park. That skyline is going to be amazing! http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0291b3ff.jpg Despite how well this part has turned out, I don't know what to do with the rest of the park:( I'd like some suggestions. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psee5ab0bc.jpg Well that's all I can do for now. |
SkyDragon,
You have some nice textures going on there! I would suggest adding some hills in the park and even in other parts of Remus. I think it would add a new dimension to your city! |

The park is going to have lots of trees in the north, and hills and a zoo in the middle and south. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps640d01d6.jpg Here is the art institute. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps837a275d.jpg The art institute's court yard:) my plants dont show up very well, so I may just leave the court yard empty. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psce4599bc.jpg I did't have much time for my city this week, I hope to finish the park tomorrow. |
The Art Institute is a good addition to the park.
On a side note, I suggest you move those plants and trees on a different layer right from the start (if you haven't already done so), so you can hide that layer when you're model starts to lag. Vegetation is usually quite polygon heavy. |

Anyway here is the park, The blank area on the left and the middle of the park are going to be where the city fair will be held, I'll put some fair buildings there. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psab9e3c84.jpg Instead of the bean, there is the sphere:) http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps50933595.jpg Now here is a fern tree, another plant I have in real life:D there is a kapok tree in the background. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...pscfc21b72.jpg Thats all for now. |
I've finished the park! and figured out how to use layers:D
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps016be926.jpg The north part of the park. Those smaller buildings are for the city fair, and the gray paved areas are where they set up the rides and other stuff for the fair. And although it's hard to make out, that green area next to the fair buildings is a raised structure that has the city's bizarre bazaar under it. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps32975795.jpg Here is the middle of the park. with nice trees and a lake. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psce56ecf4.jpg And here is the zoo! It has an aquarium, reptile emporium, mammal house and bird aviary, they are the four main buildings in the center. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psbe97fd99.jpg I only have time for these views right now, but if anyone would like to see a persons view of any part of the park I'd be glade to get it:) Well thats my park, I could not do the hills right so I just made it like this, what do you think? |
Nice to see you are putting in more than just skyscrapers but actual places for your citizens to go to! I suggest switching to 2D face-me trees as they take up less space and you can put more of them, because as of now that park is looking a little sparse.
|
Thats a big park, reminds me of Chicago's Grant Park in scale and the mixed uses.
|
I think that's the first zoo I've seen in a Sketchup city. Good job!
|
Well I've put the cathedral into Remus city!
Here is a view from the zoo. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psf15860e2.jpg Here is a fern tree near the cathedral. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8a7b10b8.jpg Here is where the cathedral is. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps348d536d.jpg I was always planning on it being there. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psc776123d.jpg I've put some more trees in the park, but it is not going to be a forest. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2104e998.jpg Well that's all for now, please tell me what you think. |
I really like the view of the mega complex from the park!
|
Well I've done a lot of stuff in Remus city:D
Look at the skyline:) http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psda319dc0.jpg I've made the river, It's about twenty one miles long. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5611dbaa.jpg Here, from left to right in the middle of this photo, is the police headquarters, central fire station and the largest hospital. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9080775f.jpg Here is a huge parking structure next to the hospital, I've re-textured all of my parking structures. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps625ef9ca.jpg Here is the cathedral, next to it is the catholic school, rectory and monetary. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psfee9c252.jpg A new green space in downtown. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps651405f3.jpg And now here are two of my best buildings salvaged from version one of Remus city. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psc8dc2cd8.jpg And here is crystal tower, modeled after a real crystal that I have. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps820a9daf.jpg Well thats all, please tell me what you think. |
The river is a good addition. I like how the park is next to the river, so the park is even a better place for recreation. The cathedral is a good fit!
|
Well I've made some more buildings.
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps376ce1f8.jpg This is another building inspired by my crystal, It is one thousand and fourty feet tall. I really like that crystal's shape:) http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps71adc0fd.jpg I decided that the monastery was too fancy, so I re-textured it with gothic arches. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4a71fedf.jpg After I do this section, I'm making the mile tall tower:D http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3357881e.jpg Thats it for now, tell me what you think. |
I think that the previous version of the monastery was better. There's nothing wrong about a monastery looking too fancy :).
Waiting to see that mile high tower and what impact it will have on the skyline. |
Well I changed the monastery back to the first version.
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...pseeb866e3.jpg I've finished this section. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps41a5f3b1.jpg I've done the mile tall super tower! http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps03275937.jpg The Remus city Acropolis! http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psbe6b7ce6.jpg With it's flying buttresses, it is Gothic futurism architecture! http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps786c0c8b.jpg The building would have everything inside of it, and has sky-parks! Here is my super tower compared with some others. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6b10ce10.jpg Well thats it, tell me what you think. |
Well, that is massive building! Quite well-proportioned, I must say. It dominates the skyline in a way I have never seen before.
|
I've done two more of downtowns sections.
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9e13f163.jpg In the center are two of my best buildings. The small one with the dome is the smaller of two downtown water pumping stations. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps427a3c50.jpg Here is another hospital, with a very neat design! http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5f469d7a.jpg Here is a cool bank. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps68e6c387.jpg Just look at this place! http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9d1da8cf.jpg These two buildings in the middle, are also some of my best. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psc9b7bfb2.jpg Here is the larger of the two water pumping stations. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9d76d046.jpg Her are some slanted buildings. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psd900a5ee.jpg Well thats all, please tell me what you think. And thank you all for being interested in my city:D |
Holy crap! An Acropolis! That's gotta be a first here, the city is starting to look quite futuristic :)
|
I agree with with Patrick: quite futuristic! Maybe this is what 22nd century architecture will look like.
