Some photos of the 'Wuppertaler Schwebebahn' in Wuppertal, Germany I took in April.
It's the oldest monorail system in the world (built in 1900-1901) and with a length of 13.3 km (8.3 miles) and 20 stations also still the world's longest suspended monorail system. http://www.jochenhertweck.com/other/wuppertal01.JPG http://www.jochenhertweck.com/other/wuppertal02.JPG http://www.jochenhertweck.com/other/wuppertal03.JPG http://www.jochenhertweck.com/other/wuppertal04.JPG http://www.jochenhertweck.com/other/wuppertal05.JPG http://www.jochenhertweck.com/other/wuppertal06.JPG http://www.jochenhertweck.com/other/wuppertal07.JPG http://www.jochenhertweck.com/other/wuppertal08.JPG http://www.jochenhertweck.com/other/wuppertal09.JPG http://www.jochenhertweck.com/other/wuppertal10.JPG http://www.jochenhertweck.com/other/wuppertal11.JPG http://www.jochenhertweck.com/other/wuppertal12.JPG |
Thank you Rapto - something new and old at the same time.
How did this not get blown up during WWII ? |
I was wondering the same thing! You'd think that they woulda tried disrupt regular day to day activities as much as possible. Oh well, a nice piece of innovation nonetheless.

Those shots from Wuppertal are amazing. This one's my favourite.
Here are a few more shots of Paddington station, in London. http://i570.photobucket.com/albums/s...Trains/070.jpg http://i570.photobucket.com/albums/s...Trains/005.jpg http://i570.photobucket.com/albums/s...Trains/007.jpg http://i570.photobucket.com/albums/s...Trains/006.jpg |

That's a great picture from below the train, BF Headstone. Really powerful. And the bars at the front of the train remind of a handlebar moustache, somehow.

From a bridge near my house. This set of tracks connects San Antonio, Austin and the Metroplex.

:previous: Fantastic combination of train, wires, trees and skyline - almost dreamlike.

Hmm... I haven't been keeping up with this thread. Some seriously marvelous photography since the last time I checked.
Here are a couple of Chicago photos from the South Shore platforms at what used to be known as Randolph Street Station before the construction of Millennium Park turned it into a cave. Those Japanese trains are amazing. A friend of mine who lives in Tokyo tells me that the pointier the train, the higher the fare. Based on that observation, I'm guessing that you have to be some kind of a millionaire to ride the Shinkansen 500.
Harry, I love the light on this one. http://i570.photobucket.com/albums/s...ains/007-1.jpg http://i570.photobucket.com/albums/s...Trains/010.jpg http://i570.photobucket.com/albums/s...Trains/012.jpg http://i570.photobucket.com/albums/s...Trains/020.jpg http://i570.photobucket.com/albums/s...Trains/062.jpg |
