^Wow! Gorgeous light!

Some photos of the 'Wuppertaler Schwebebahn' in Wuppertal, Germany I took in April.

It's the oldest monorail system in the world (built in 1900-1901) and with a length of 13.3 km (8.3 miles) and 20 stations also still the world's longest suspended monorail system.

Thank you Rapto - something new and old at the same time.

How did this not get blown up during WWII ?

I was wondering the same thing! You'd think that they woulda tried disrupt regular day to day activities as much as possible. Oh well, a nice piece of innovation nonetheless.

$3,398,000 each. Nicer ride, more comfortable seats, hot-rod acceleration. Bigger windows than on the older single-level cars provide a wider view forward and back, and the upper level lets a rider see above the trackside brush, clutter, and structures for a longer view of the urban and rural scenery.

Information on the acquisition and funding of these cars is in the Transportation section in this thread.

Currently, the new cars operate on westbound trains 102, 212, 114, and 116, and eastbound trains 203, 107, 109, and 211. Schedules are on the South Shore web site

What's the clearance on them beauts? Can they fit through the Suburban Station portal? They might be a nice coup for SEPTA if they wind up on the market...

Those shots from Wuppertal are amazing. This one's my favourite.

Here are a few more shots of Paddington station, in London.

That's a great picture from below the train, BF Headstone. Really powerful. And the bars at the front of the train remind of a handlebar moustache, somehow.

IMO the Shinkansen 500 is definitely the best-looking train ever built.

METRA (Chicago) approaching RiverForest stop on the UP line

Hmm... I haven't been keeping up with this thread. Some seriously marvelous photography since the last time I checked.

Here are a couple of Chicago photos from the South Shore platforms at what used to be known as Randolph Street Station before the construction of Millennium Park turned it into a cave.

Those Japanese trains are amazing. A friend of mine who lives in Tokyo tells me that the pointier the train, the higher the fare. Based on that observation, I'm guessing that you have to be some kind of a millionaire to ride the Shinkansen 500.

Harry, I love the light on this one.
