great idea for creating such a thread! in my opinion the bridges in and around nyc are heavily underrated! f.e. the manhattan / brooklyn bridge is a real beauty, especially at night.

Verrazano Narrows Bridge

I have to say that aside from the Brooklyn, GW, and perhaps the Manhattan, many forget the numerous bridges in New York City (which is essentially the suspension bridge capitol of the US if not the World). Not to mention the numerous amount right outside the city in Jersey.

Many also typically get the Bronx-Whitestone, Throgs Neck, and Verrazano confused for all the same one.

I've also had people confuse the Bayonne Bridge for the Hellgate.

All in all I never take for granted the bridges of New York City.

Outside of skyscrapers, the bridges are probably my favorite thing about the city. Not just for the variety, but for the way the city is "tied" together. Riding around the city at night, you can catch glimpses of one bridge or another, and they all seem to sparkle.

Very cool shots NYGuy, I was a bridge nerd as a kid, I would always draw bridges.

Queensboro - 59th Street Bridge

I live near the Hell Gate bridge and love it. Most people don't know that the Sydney Harbour Bridge's architect used it as his inspiration.

Very similar to the Bayonne Bridge also.

Why is the East River a river? It's really more of a straight. If it is a river which way does it flow???

The East River is technically a tidal strait.
