Some of the European airlines fly into destinations in Africa where the local country is such a basket case that flight crew are prohibited by the airline to get off the aircraft. China is turning into such a country. |

I think this is where TS plans on procuring their SAF from. |
Sun seekers ready for non-stop take off
https://flyeia.com/corporate/wp-cont...s-1024x576.jpg A non-stop flight to Las Vegas departed EIA at 0800, via WestJet. It was the first direct flight to the United States from EIA since January 31. It marks the gradual return of international service happening this fall as airlines begin rebuilding their networks and capacity following the impacts of the global pandemic. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines already resumed service to Amsterdam on Aug. 19. By the end of 2021, 20 international destinations will be added to EIA’s network, for a total of 45 destinations. This compares to 52 destinations serviced before the start of the pandemic. https://flyeia.com/corporate/media/n...stop-take-off/ |

Some seasonal routes might get pushed back to January/February 2022 before it starts and operate until end of March/ April this Winter. 2 good examples of it: WestJet’s Calgary- Paris, France is 1x weekly this Summer 2021 from August-end of October & while Calgary-Nashville,US this Summer operates September- end of November & both operates for a short *3 months*. Most International/ US flights ✈️/Frequencies will still be out Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal & Calgary which are safer options to book, during the pandemic. |
Today WestJet named Harry Taylor as their Temporary/Interim President & CEO.

Curious to see what Icelandair does with Canada post-covid.

This was predictable:
Summer travel surge has WestJet and Air Canada asking for volunteer help Passenger traffic has reached its highest point since pandemic began Kyle Bakx · CBC News · Posted: Sep 16, 2021 A surge in summer travel across the country has forced Canada's two biggest airlines to ask staff to help volunteer at airports to overcome staffing challenges — a move that is creating pushback from unions. In an email to all employees, WestJet described how the rapid growth in passenger numbers is causing operational problems at several airports, including its flagship airport in Calgary. The "growing pains of recovery requires all-hands-on-deck," read the message, which included an open call for any staff members to sign up to volunteer to help guests requiring wheelchair assistance at the Calgary International Airport. Meanwhile, Air Canada has needed extra personnel at Toronto's Pearson airport since "airport partners are stretched beyond their capacity, which led to significant flight cancellations and missed connections," read an internal memo... ...During the pandemic, WestJet decided to outsource the work of guest-service agents, who would help passengers that require wheelchairs, assist with check-in kiosks and co-ordinate lineups. But the contractor is struggling to provide enough workers, said Dias, and that's why there was a call for volunteers. After flying more than 700 flights daily in 2019, WestJet flew as few as 30 some days during the pandemic. Currently, there are more than 400 flights each day.... https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/bak...teer-1.6177333 |

While Edmonton YEG Icelandair service is “Suspended Indefinitely” & it’s Unknown what their plans are for YEG going forward. Though it won’t be too surprising *if* Icelandair decides to not return to YEG as Coronavirus Covid19 Pandemic still on going & post Covid it be a couple of years for Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Halifax & other Smaller Airports in Canada passengers demand & airlines services are able to better recover from it. Post Covid- Canada’s 4 busiest Airport Hubs in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal & Calgary will lead in growth due to more Airlines flights/ frequencies = more passengers demand / connecting passengers & also more new Airline routes too! |
Swoop are adding the following new winter seasonal routes:
YYZ-SJD 2x/wk (plus the return of YEG-SJD 1x/wk that didn't operate last winter); and https://www.newswire.ca/news-release...871591133.html YWG-SFB 2x/wk https://www.newswire.ca/news-release...804375226.html |
Air Algerie has YUL bookable from January 1, 2022. 3x weekly service. Last time they flew to YUL was January 9, 2021, so if they resume as planned, it would have been close to a year without service.
Also, Lufthansa is resuming MUC-YUL service after more than a year without service on October 31. 5x weekly service. Of course, they have already resumed seasonal FRA-YUL some time ago. Quote:
Last October, Icelandair announced they would be resuming YYZ, YVR and YUL by summer 2021. YUL and I believe YVR never resumed. Still, hopefully their intention for summer 2021 translates to them still being interested in restarting both. I know YVR is bookable next summer, starting May 6, 4x weekly with B757. Not so for YUL, at least not yet. https://www.icelandair.com/en-ca/blo...schedule-2021/ Their plan vis-a-vis YEG, their lone other Canadian passenger destination pre-COVID, seems to be murkier. Mind you, they couldn't have resumed non stop service to YEG for most of this summer even if they wanted to, due to the intl flight restrictions imposed by Canada. Now that YEG is back in the gang, it's a major hurdle out of the way for foreign carriers. Also, for what it's worth, both YEG and YUL are no longer on their route map. So may be a sign of things to come, or not, for that matter, for YUL and YEG. Of course, AC has YUL-KEF bookable starting June 1 on the Max. YEG is left empty handed for now. |

No way I see them leaving AC alone on the market, especially with no WOW air anymore. |
