I know WS operated the route to Paris in 2018 as I had family travelling. And for a couple of summers before that ASL (Europe AirPost) operated YHZ-DUB-CDG. (Air St. Pierre passengers could connect in YHZ to continue to CDG......now (Covid aside!) they can go non-stop on ASL)

There is a strong Maritime connection with France....the Acadian population here. Go back a few years and Canada 3000 (remember them!) flew Moncton-Paris and the French airline Corsair had '747s between Moncton and Paris.

Alberta's testing pilot has changed the quarantine rules for participants. Now you have to stay in quarantine until after your second negative test result (so around 7 days) and I believe you cannot go back to work/enter a group setting until after 14 days.

TREQ, a new low-cost co-op regional airline in Québec with a fleet of four Q400 announced that it will launch on May 1st. Their lifetime membership is also for sale at 10$ and they are hiring pilots.

Their initial routes will be between YQB, YUL, YBG, YWK, YGP, YGR, YUY and YZV. All of which were destinations suspended by Air Canada.

Gatineau, Mont-Tremblant, Mont-Joli, Sherbrooke, Trois-Rivières, Charlevoix and Baie-Comeau will come later.

I imagine they got an absolutely screaming deal on those MAX airplanes - I wouldn't be surprised if they were white tails Boeing wanted sold to get them off the lot.

I still won't fly with them. Smaller airlines have this nasty habit of puffing themselves up and then being bankrupt shortly thereafter. I book far enough in advance that I'd actually like my airline to exist when I show up. Saving $50-100 isn't great when you've the potential to lose hundreds more.

Also WS has additionally cut YVR-HNL in February. Surprisingly YYC-HNL has still survived for now, and its crazy to think YYC is now better connected to Hawaii than YVR.

Government is announcing new restrictions today. International flights from any destination can only land at YYZ, YVR, YUL or YYC. Also AC, WS, and TS have agreed to stop all flights to Mexico/Caribbean until April 30th.

Short-term pain for long-term gain. Australia got it right way earlier than us.

Probably would have made more sense to have implemented them last year and not now. It's not really "short term" pain if it means long-term consequences on the travel industry.

On a positive note, it sounds like the government actually worked with the airlines on these rounds of restrictions and hopefully those talks including some kind of aid.

Transat announced its suspending its operations until April 30th. Both AC & WS have only cancelled flights to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. So far Transborder flights, and long haul flights to Europe, South America and Asia seem unaffected for now.

If there’s a concern that the new variants from the UK, Brazil and Africa are spreading, why aren’t flights from those places not being suspended as well? Also, aren’t Orlando, San Diego, Hawaii etc considered “sun” destinations?

I'm not understanding this logical of having just Mexico / Caribbean flights stopped but California, Florida and Hawaii are okay? Like I can see LAX / SFO / JFK being okay, but Hawaii? Orlando? :shrug:
