First post on this forum so just getting used to it... Anyway I believe I read here a while ago a couple posts about the crown lighting and if it will have what’s in the render. I found an article by the lighting company L’Observatoire International who teamed up with Sh0p and it appears they will do the crown lighting strands. The broad glass sides will have vertical strands of lights hanging in front of the steel X braces, these will sparkle which is super cool. The tarra-cotta will be lit to match the twist of the blocks. Not sure if the terracotta lighting will be moving or stationary but it will change with the moon cycle. As for renders the lighting will appear to be white and luckily not multicoloured like the Empire State suffers from now. It will be cool to see this whole tower lit in such a tasteful way.
L’Observatoire International written article, undated and no author mentioned, titled “111 West 57TH Street” https://lobsintl.com/project/111-west-57th-street |

Yeah, that's the one we've been going with, in regards to the lighting. But until they finish up that crown, we'll just have to wait and see. |

The way it tapers to its thin but stately top is a crown that stands out gloriously, no mere flat top here!

Can't wait to see the crown lighting.
The cross-bracing structure in the crown is a lot more visible than the renderings showed. I like it though. |
The visibility of the cross bracing really bugs me; it muddles the V-shape design giving the top of the building more of "..." ending than a "!!!". Overall an elegant tower though.
|
From an angle in which you could actually see it, I find that it adds an elegant touch to what would be an otherwise boxy frame.

How many years of construction to this point? Understandably a tall & complex structure, but it seems to have taken longer than most.

This skyscraper started construction in 2015 and expected to be completed this year. It’s seems long but if you look (zooming in) closer, you might notice that it has completed its glass panels on the top.
|
i can't imagine the $ the construction team is making with this so dragged out. at least i hope they are getting paid as it seems so stuck lately. good for them i guess.

Beautiful tower, but seems like a lot for so few units. |
i am hoping we can get some good zoom in's on the crown. i can't tell what is going on there. or how much of it is done or still to go.

It’s a complicated project. It’s a 1,400 ft structure that went up through a lanmarked building (people always forget that). Like 9 Dekalb, once the main shaft started rising, it went up pretty quickly. There have been some minor delays due to accidents and lawsuits, but we saw no real lag once it began to rise. |

A few more months til this is lit up and becomes an instant NY icon! A beacon for the 21st century of architectural design! We need more art deco-styled buildings!

As amazing as this perspective of the skyline looks now, imagine how it will look in a few years with 175, 270, and 350 Park.
|
And Tower Fifth with 343 Madison as well. They would eclipse the Empire State Building soon.
|
The Chrysler Building is already largely buried. I hope that the ESB will remain prominently visible for many more decades, as it is NYC's second most recognizable landmark. (#1 is of course the Statue of Liberty.)

Of all the skinny towers, this one is the worse.
