Do I count the "res" correctly? Only 46 units in the entire building ? :uhh:

There was supposed to be about 60 total, with some in the existing building. But that could be in flux, depending on how many of the units are duplex as opposed to single floor. Either way, not a lot of units here. It will be a very exclusive club.

gramsjdg Sep 8, 2016 2:37 AM

Crazy how the top floor is 300 feet lower than the top of the building. Occupied floor height is where Central Park Tower will completely demolish the perhaps better looking competition. At 1450'+ for the top occupied floor, its 300' above Steinway's and at least 200' above 432 PA and 1 WTC's highest occupied floors. The only building in the western hemisphere with a higher occupied floor is the CN Tower at 1465' for the skypod, although I wouldn't be surprised if CPT ends up breaking that mark by a little...

houstonny Sep 8, 2016 3:56 AM

I don't mean to sound super rude here, just a correction, so don't get me the wrong way. The CN Tower is just a structure, but yeah, I hope New York can kick the CN Tower out of its spot.

when is this tower going to be done? also, does construction take place on Saturday as well?

I don't fully understand what's going on in the crown. Is it an open span with dangling chandelier-like glass that's lit up? If so that's a massive span.

I think it's a big sequin sign.

:haha::haha::haha: Well it might as well be sequins for all I can tell. I"m skeptical this is just rendering magic and the final product will not appear quite like that.

ok so basically the billboard on the left advertising the project is wider than the actual lot on which the building is being built?

The lot is 43 feet wide, and the tower base will also extend about 16 feet to the west into the footprint of the Steinway building.

But, yes, the Steinway is wider than the alley.

streetscaper Sep 22, 2016 5:16 PM

At this very slow pace, I'm guessing it won't clear the surrounding buildings until December/Janurary (looks like there's at least 5 more floors to go). Then it'll rise more rapidly hopefully!

I know the entire focus of the project, other than the awesome renders and setbacks, has been on the slender aspect of the building ... but it is still amazing to think about. Having been by the area several times, you still can't imagine something that tall coming from what looks like a little alley. It will be different once the front is build out and the building is merged with the historical building next door, but for now you can see the detail in how little the footprint is for something that is going past 432 ... amazing engineering.

Keep in mind that this is being built as an extension, or alteration to an existing building. Most of the new addition will be in that lot, but it's actually wider than that.

JDS Development Group LLC and Property Markets Group Inc.'s slender luxury residential tower just south of Central Park is, despite recent hurdles to financing such projects amid uncertainty of the New York luxury market, close to entering its final year of construction, thanks to the help of numerous law firms.

The 80-story condo building at 111 W. 57th St. is expected to be completed in early 2018 and rise to 1,438 feet, making it the second-tallest U.S. tower currently being built, according to Skyscraper Center.

Kasowitz Benson Torres & Friedman LLP and Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP have scored work representing the developers, while Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP, Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP and Latham & Watkins LLP have gotten work on financing matters.....

My favorites alternate between this and 53W53 (9 DeKalb being 3rd). Currently it's Tower Verre, because it's giving us love back early. But this one in it's own way is also a pinnacle of New York skyscraper design.

Not sure what you mean. The bulk of the work up to now has been on and in the landmark building itself. This isn't your typical new skyscraper construction going up. The main shaft, what most people are looking for, is really just now beginning to rise.

Almost, but not quite. Part of it is "within" the landmark structure.

It appears to be at the same level as the setback on Steinway... about 4 or 5 floors above the roof of the grand entrance. Is that correct?

^ ha and thats all we will be able to do!

i cant imagine the complications of building on a site like this. once it rises above steinway the construction crew's lives should be easier.

kenratboy Dec 11, 2016 3:53 PM

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when they were showing the architects and engineers the site plan.

'You want us to build this on WHAT sort of lot!!!???'

Only in NYC, London, and a few other select cities would it seems like a good idea to build such a monster on such a terrible lot (in terms of the size, shape).

chris08876 Dec 11, 2016 5:40 PM

The roof is 7 feet taller than the ESB spire (excluding the lightning rod).
