My favorite renderings:

Crazy how the top floor is 300 feet lower than the top of the building. Occupied floor height is where Central Park Tower will completely demolish the perhaps better looking competition. At 1450'+ for the top occupied floor, its 300' above Steinway's and at least 200' above 432 PA and 1 WTC's highest occupied floors. The only building in the western hemisphere with a higher occupied floor is the CN Tower at 1465' for the skypod, although I wouldn't be surprised if CPT ends up breaking that mark by a little...
|
I don't mean to sound super rude here, just a correction, so don't get me the wrong way. The CN Tower is just a structure, but yeah, I hope New York can kick the CN Tower out of its spot.
|
when is this tower going to be done? also, does construction take place on Saturday as well?

I don't fully understand what's going on in the crown. Is it an open span with dangling chandelier-like glass that's lit up? If so that's a massive span.

:haha::haha::haha: Well it might as well be sequins for all I can tell. I"m skeptical this is just rendering magic and the final product will not appear quite like that.
|
Any progress on this one over the last month?

Great thanks for that! :)
|
ok so basically the billboard on the left advertising the project is wider than the actual lot on which the building is being built?
|

But, yes, the Steinway is wider than the alley. |
At this very slow pace, I'm guessing it won't clear the surrounding buildings until December/Janurary (looks like there's at least 5 more floors to go). Then it'll rise more rapidly hopefully!

NYGuy, does the site feel / look very active in person?

Does this photo indicate the width of the tower? Wow! |

Almost, but not quite. Part of it is "within" the landmark structure. Look at this view from above to get an idea... http://www.radiiinc.com/wp-content/u...Steinway_8.jpg http://m7.i.pbase.com/o9/06/102706/1...ic1009137b.JPG |
What is the top of this building in use? Mechanical? Open-air?
|
They put in a new crane a few days ago, I think. I was in a business meeting across the street, and they were putting something new in.
This site is insane from above, BTW. Sorry, I didn't get any pics. |

It appears to be at the same level as the setback on Steinway... about 4 or 5 floors above the roof of the grand entrance. Is that correct?

I cannot wait to touch that terracotta :slob:
|
^ ha and thats all we will be able to do!
i cant imagine the complications of building on a site like this. once it rises above steinway the construction crew's lives should be easier. |
I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when they were showing the architects and engineers the site plan.
'You want us to build this on WHAT sort of lot!!!???' Only in NYC, London, and a few other select cities would it seems like a good idea to build such a monster on such a terrible lot (in terms of the size, shape). |
The roof is 7 feet taller than the ESB spire (excluding the lightning rod).
