I think it needs a spire to more dominate

IIRC I don't think this was ever marketed...per se/as it were...as a "superslender"; and I agree that the more this giant fleshes out, the more we'll see that point borne out.

I kinda like that this one has some meat on it's bones...

It will be a nice companion to One57 when it's fully clad and the "gift-wrap" is off.

Just like the Empire State Building, it is visible from almost every point in the city.

and there is still over 100 feet to go, when i last checked the building was at 1425' which meant that the top floors were not completed. the ceiling of the top floor is at 1450, the remaining 100 feet will contain BMUs and AC boxes that will be concealed on a parapet (just look at the fulton tower to realize how important is the extra height above the top floor to conceal mechanical stuff)
im looking forward when the US finally surpasses Willis in floor height,
1WTC having surpassed the Willis does not give that satisfaction as we all know ''spires'' had surpassed Willis already even in North America, including the CN and that KVLY Mast.

The reason why this took over 45 years is because a building this size was not financially feasible but now, increase the ceilings, lower the floor count, put most of mechanical stuff at the base so all floor area is quite tall already. Find multi-billion dollar owning buyers and these buildings do not seem that impossible anymore

another thing that will definetly help in building 1400+ buildings is instead of using all floor area for office only or residential only, doing multipurpose skyscrapers that have retail, offices, hotels, apartments will be the new trend. it has worked out amazingly in Asia, otherwise it would be almost impossible to fill all those floors if they had one purpose only

NYguy Apr 23, 2019 2:24 PM

^ Mixed use isn't really a new trend.
