The word you're looking for is cheap, the boxy version is much cheaper. Not a bad building, but not a good building makes a mediocre building. A 1550ft mediocre building. This is the Kwame Brown of tall buildings. |
Put it this way, it's not a building that should be higher on the Midtown skyline than anything else. Where is Amanda Burden when you need her?

The real crime is that Tower Verre should have been 1550' with this design limited to 1050' |
I think this one will come out to impress even those who hold little regard to its design. The sheer height alone with make it a piece to behold.

https://i.imgur.com/AvrnJGq.jpg https://i.imgur.com/a23viki.jpg Made it past another set of mechanical floors, meaning we should start to see some of the setbacks soon. https://i.imgur.com/vpJLFK1.jpg Also I didn't realize until today this cladding was being put up. Honestly looks kinda cheap but considering I didn't even notice this wall in any of the renderings or photos up until today who really cares |

I noticed it last week. I'm guessing it will be revealed to be the same as the facade. You can see the beginnings here (towards the 57th St side) http://a4.pbase.com/o10/06/102706/1/...1212_HDR01.jpg Toby Price - Coates https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4714/3...87cd6694_b.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4714/3...c30b1af1_h.jpg |

Are they at a transfer floor? I could be wrong, but using 220 CPS for a gauge, the height has been the same for 3-4 weeks...

^^ I’m not trying to start another debate here, but that logo would look better with a spire :(

Seems stalled out in the vertical. I'd say maybe one floor in the last month, if that.
|
|
I think as far as short term excitement, I am looking forward to this reaching the top of 220 CPS so we have confirmation we are are at 1000 feet with this tower.
|
I find it interesting that CPT, 220 CPS, and 111 W 57th all have basically forgone having web listings of units. I guess that is the state of billionaire real estate. I don't think I've seen a single public listing for any of them yet.

Haven't been back to NYC for 5 years, I only drove through the city today on the way to Massachusetts so I grabbed some quick photos of the skyline.

I’m not trying to start another debate here,
but that logo would look better with a spire . . - Skyguy 7 sweet sentiment, skyguy 7. . I do like the logo just fine . . a nice intertwining of letters . . . but we DO need that spire . . that simple, elegantly proportioned deco spire . . not on the logo, of course, . . but in the high niche . . in the recess in the NE corner of CPT's otherwise bland "crown" . . Without this particular compelling accessory, . . once offered, then snatched away . . the NYC skyline is dominated by mere "foreign" bombastic banality . . Who amongst us, actually gives a shit . . how the expensive CPT apartments, for super rich Chinese, will look inside ? . . There's no observation deck for us average New Yorkers . . no ambitious crowning gesture on America's preeminent premises . . no triumphant emblem of exuberance to connect with us dreamers of vision . . instead Extell gives us an emphatic "Shhh!, The foreign rich deserve our discretion!' . . (while lavishly presiding over us . . ostentatiously removed in their highfalutin tower . . without a smidgeon of alleviating architectural elegance, offered to us, on the outside . . not one dollop of design deliciousness . . Such Jurisprudence !!!!! Yeah comrades, what do WE get to see ? . . nuttin' much. we get lambasted with an ominous overhang . . we get an absolutely KILLJOY crown . . and we get unapologetically cold dispassionate inhospitable walls . . 1555,555500 feet high ! . . oh boy ! . . a really big, really bad, tasteless building . . and yeah, that one element, could've made all the difference . . so disappointing. |
Are we starting to see some setback here? looks like it

Yes, above that mechanical level is where it should be. It's a small one, but it's there. http://a4.pbase.com/o9/06/102706/1/1...imQA1JK.c4.JPG http://a4.pbase.com/o9/06/102706/1/1...0151219182.png |

Whoa, that midtown pic is really amazing.

This pic from the Verre thread def highlights how close this one is to 1000 feet and we are def taller than Cityspire now. :) |
^ Won't be long before it overtakes 220 CPS.

Today's YIMBY update showed a picture of the tower with the spire; but on further check, I think it's from 2015.
I'm a bit confused. |

IMO, CPT is like the Tupac of super talls. Keeps mysteriously appearing (spire) every once in a while. |

I like the ballroom replacement tower on the lower right.

Windows on the right side is a mockup of the residential lobby and windows to the left is the projection room where they show the video of the tower and views from each unit. I'm pretty sure they won't remove the films from the windows given the need of a darkened room for the projection and how the lobby is "rotated" so in reality, there won't be any windows on that side when it's built anyways From what I've heard, all the N line 2 bedroom units are already in contract already; these are the 2 bedroom ~1400 sq ft full central park view units that go for around $6000 psf |

I know its just a mass model and mock up, but come to think about it, CPT with skylights illuminating the base would look kinda neat, at least from street level.
What I can't wait to see is the lighting atop of Stienway, illuminating its waterfall wall like crown. In typical Barnett fashion, its competitor JDS has absolutely no detail added to its tower; One57, CPT vs Stienway. One is via Barnett (Extell), the other Stern (JDS Development). |
This tower will be stunning.
