Top Golf and LA fitness have been looking Downtown for expanding. But I wouldn't mind seeing something better done on that property.

The writing was on the wall for a while that the Commercial Appeal was going to sell its headquarters on Union at some point considering all of the cuts and changes made by its parent company Gannett these last few months (similar thing went on with its sister publication in Nashville in which they ultimately had to sell their headquarters as well).

It's going to be interesting to see what becomes of the property itself down the road, and hopefully we see some kind of vertical development happen there rather than something bland.

Memphis is getting a Wahlburgers on Beale. It's going into the space where Sweetie Pie's was supposed to go before a dispute with the property owners killed those plans. Hopefully, there won't be a repeat episode of that this time.

The work will cost $18.5 million, the document estimates.Central Station Hotel will offer a lobby, bar, ballroom, guest rooms, restaurant and retail in the 103-year-old building that also houses the Amtrak station.
Company principal McLean Wilson has said his company's goal is to make the hotel "an extremely special experience.'' The hotel's full name will be Central Station Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton.
The hotel is part of a joint $55 million project with developers Henry Turley and Archie Willis to redevelop Memphis Area Transit Authority's Central Station. Turley and Willis have built apartments on the former rail yard. Malco Theatres will transform the on-site Powerhouse building into a multi-screen theater. And Wilson will:
Wilson has said the hotel plan includes changing the train station's waiting area into a large bar that will be like a "living room'' for the South Main neighborhood.
The project also will turn the existing Amtrak lobby and ticketing space into the hotel lobby, and move the Amtrak space further east within the building.
The plan will convert ground-floor meeting rooms and offices along South Main and G.E. Patterson into a 3,500-square-foot restaurant and 6,000 square feet of retail that will likely include a coffee shop.
Wilson also has indicated the hotel will offer a unique Memphis, South Main and Central Station experience, although he has declined to give details yet.

I felt that this shift would happen eventually. Hearing from the Mayor's mouth is just confirmation that I was seeing the next pattern to come. The mention of
Whitehaven as the next area receiving economic focus and growth is exciting for me. Outside of Downtown, Midtown, & East Memphis, this one made sense as the next focus area with a lot of potential.

This area is under utilized and is not invested into deserving enough for the strong middle class that lives out there.

-"We’re down to one or two right-of-way acquisitions on improving Elvis Presley Boulevard,” Strickland said. “It’s moved too slow for my taste. But I think we are picking up the pace on it.

That comment made me think. Last time I drove down EP Blvd from Brooks Rd, it looks like there were some slated properties from that end. I'm thinking maybe thinking that they are clearing the old businesses to encourage development on that side. But interesting article.

Just drove by that (what appears to be) a new office tower with the crane. It's a good 10 stories give or take. The hospital towers always have so much space between floor plates for all the additional systems. The new Chili's Center next door is 6 stories, similar height.

Much more than top national rankings, I'd say the combination of Le Bonheur & St. Jude, which do have collaborative programs, is among the top pediatric services in the world.

Long-stalled hotel projects finally getting off the ground

The 135,000-square-foot building, which JVD bought before the Great Recession and then held onto for a number of years, will be restored and partially demolished. Work could get underway on the Downtown project before the end of the year.

I have consistently posted my belief that this area is where a new indoor/retractable roof stadium should be located as part of a new convention center and extention of the Beale St. Entertainment District. If the existing Cook Convo Center is going to cost the amount they say, why not just build new. 50,000 seats with about 10,000 upper deck seat that can be tastefully blocked off with lots of value added seats to make up any potentiometer revenue loss over capacity right sizing and the ability to add temp seating in one endzone upwards of 5,000. Use retractable seating for the first level and you have a very nice exhibition space for trade shows.

1)New, modern home for Tiger football
2)Growing the size of the Beale St. Music Fest
3)up to date seismic standards/ADA compliant
4)ability to host or upgrade for larger conferences, competitions, sporting events and concerts without fear of weather.
5)upgrade the Liberty Bowl/Heritage Classic experience for isiting fans and offering the ability to host showcase games like kickoff classic neutral site games and high school showcase games

Ect, ect, ect.

Spit balling, could be shifted to CA property. There's even a Google amount of public and private Greenspace for tailgating with the right planning.

80,000 is the most insane thing i'v read in a while. Why does Memphis continue to pour millions into the Liberty Bowl just to keep it treading water when it could'very been servicing debt on a new stadium downtown. Millions for Tiger Lane, New chair back seating, video boards, and and what would be millions more for better infrastructure to host a concert or two when that could be just part of new uses for a new stadium.

Little Rock snagged a Guns N Roses concert for even more ancient War Memorial for this summer. It's more about willingness to put up the funds needed to book than the actual venue. But... a new, indoor stadium that was weather proof would sure make that outlay less risky.

I did that before the CA property was put up for sale. The orange oval for the stadium needs to be bigger and better centered with some plazas on the corners. It can slide over or the CA property incorporated in the design as is as a giant parking deck with liner buildings to hide it or a mega hotel. An attached hotel shoild be a no brainer component of it. The dark red and red long rectangles are new store fronts that front the stadium and convention center for retail, restaurants, ect. The park can be used for tailgating for Tiger games.

You can also add that to 4th to tie in Auto Zone to the Forum with liner buildings to the Stadium.

Here's what I mean when I mentioned the Red Wings Arena. Notice the space between the liner buildings and the arena itself this would have that on three sides with it being physically connected to the convention center over Danny Thomas. Think large high ceiling, glass walled atrium like structure.

After this, get downtown connected to MEM via light rail.
