^ The problem is not the height of the cantilevered section but how poorly it integrates with the rest of the tower making it look tacked on / or a tumor. Why they give it a different facade I don’t know.

Just needs more at the top.

Better to be on the inside looking out...

This thing will be epic

I like the lighting scheme at night illustrated by those fresh renderings. Its my belief that lighting is an integral part of the overall design of a tower, and how it works with its environment. If those renderings are a tell-tale sign of whats to come, this at night or approaching dusk, is going to look sweet.

Not overpowering, but smooth in its transition. No single point of light detracts from the overall flow of the tower from base to crown. At least I hope thats the case like in the renderings.

It's hard to tell whether the lighting scheme as seen from the N/S will continue at the Hudson profile.

Beautiful renderings. I'd love to see them with the Steinway tower added.

That dog's haircut is pretty epic too.

I'm feeling much better re. the crown with these newer renderings. It will actually look pretty distinctive even if there's no spire.

::Ignorance In The Uninformed Context Alert::

In what respect is CPT/Nordstrom's apex a crown?

Isn't it a parapet?

I seem to recall discussions of other towers with top elements that could arguably fall into either category.

But I could be wrong.

Every floor above 70 comes with it's own Afghan hound.

Sure takes in a whole bunch of views but give nothing in return. Dismal structure.
Like 432 PArk, they can put all the lights they want this is still an abominable blight on the skyline. A testament to space-filling engineering, with ZERO aesthetic appeal. Build it cheap, build it tall; and the result is whole bunch of awfulness going up on this site.

I'm glad this tower is so tall but the more I look at it the weirder it gets. A lot of the design choices are just very strange.

Agree. The cantilevered section does not flow with the otherwise uniformity of the tower. The recent renders actually make the cantilever look like it is another tower behind it because it doesn't match at all.

Hence the need for a robust spire to balance and unify the disparate elements

One of the big rules of rendering is to not use people who are looking directly at the camera. Makes the viewer feel like a voyeur and creepy as hell.
