SSP Comp: SSP-City Masterplan

Sorry for making you wait you guys! Here's the poll.

So I thought we'd have more entries, and since we only have 5, I decided we don't need a second round.

You get one vote this time so please think carefully. Also, remember that these might not be the final layouts since Mo will have to add or remove streets, etc. to make a scaled map. Land shape will remain the same, but some things might have to be changed.

i like 2, nice and unique, and looks cool...

Aleks Sep 26, 2010 9:35 PM

i agree... i'm having a hard time choosing between 2 and 3.

2 is nice and will give us a manhattan like city.

but number 3 would have an amazing historic district in that yellow area!

Innsertnamehere Sep 26, 2010 10:47 PM

looking at the ssc city, nobody likes doing historic areas, so it might be better to go with 2 if you worry about completing the city.

Flamesrule Sep 26, 2010 11:17 PM

All of them are fairly good.

Mocholate Sep 27, 2010 3:00 AM

Mine is not there :(

Aleks Sep 27, 2010 4:05 AM

sorry mo! weird, it's not in my inbox

can you please resend it. weird... i remember seeing it in a PM...

Tolbert Sep 27, 2010 4:32 AM

Those are all nice entries and i dont have a problem doing a historic district :) Is there any prise for the winner of the contes beside that his map is choosen ? Im mean something like doing the city hall or something :D

Mocholate Sep 27, 2010 9:08 AM

Eh doesn't matter, mine had a similar feel as no.3 does which is ahead on the poll anyway :)

I'll start a thread soon regarding requirements for building design etc. so we can get it all rockin and rollin.

Flamesrule Oct 3, 2010 10:58 PM

Hey Mo, will you still be able to keep my other buildings that I entered before we did the map entries? And Mo, what happens if your making a building now. Can we still submit it to the city?

Looks great Toyota.

Mocholate Oct 4, 2010 2:33 AM

toyota74 that's fab.

Falmesrule - I'd like to use them although there are a fair few glitchy bits on your models, some faces are missing texture n stuff - point is don't rush - remember it's quality were after, not quantity.

Tolbert Oct 4, 2010 4:33 AM

toyota74, this looks just grate!!!.

Unfortunately i wont be able to enter a building on my own until next week because of university :yuck:

Here, do you want me to work on them some more and then I can give you a new link?

Flamesrule Oct 4, 2010 7:42 PM

Ok sorry for the off topicness but Mo I fixed all the glitches to the building.: DOWNLOAD HERE:

guyFROMtheBURGH Oct 5, 2010 3:37 AM

whats next?

well since it's pretty obvious who won, what is the next step?

Also, I thought it was a pretty good turnout for entries and voters...could we push our luck and have another competition soon???

Aleks Oct 5, 2010 6:43 AM

yeah, we'll have another comp soon. I just recently fixed my computer (AGAIN!) because last time was a false alarm so I'll be active more often.

To everyone, I'll have some chats with Mo and we'll start a thread soon and set up a system to keep threads organized. It might take a few days you guys so hold on.

Meanwhile I'll also have a chat with the winner and see if we can start a new comp in the next few days.

Mocholate Oct 5, 2010 7:47 AM

How bout a name comp? City needs a name.

I've started developing the map - as usual it'll be a while until i have it ready to place buildings on but hopefully not too long.

Converse with me Aleks.

Toyota 74, I can't find your model on 3D Warehouse ? n yeah, normal practice with uploading them to the warehouse. Unless of course you want to keep the model private you could email it to me -> mcburgertron@yahoo.com.au

Mocholate Oct 5, 2010 8:46 AM

Here's where i'm up to. I'll keep updating the map development incase anyone has questions or ideas for stuff and things.

Forming terrain;
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...at/SSPMAP1.jpg

Road template (rough);
I've removed a few roads and simplified the grid a little in an effort to scale it all down a bit.

Same here. Ive been working on a building for over a month. And Mo I'm not rushing with this one! You won't be dissapointed with this building!!!!!!!!!!

Mocholate Oct 6, 2010 9:57 AM

Eeew, I hate when i come across as being disappointed or feel like i've singled someone out - Saying that, there is a quote in which i live by “He has a right to criticize, who has a heart to help.” Abraham Lincoln

Guess i'm helping bring out your best?

Yep looks like you are helping me a lot. Thanks. And bringing my best out.

Mocholate Oct 6, 2010 12:08 PM

Terra forming Fortress hill begins. :) (building for scale only)

Innsertnamehere Oct 6, 2010 7:09 PM

looks great!

Flamesrule Oct 6, 2010 7:22 PM

Yeah, the map looks awsome.

guyFROMtheBURGH Oct 6, 2010 7:39 PM

wow that looks great, ready for some buildings! whats our idea for all the waterfront? i have an idea brewing...how about some bridges as well?

just putting in my 2 cents! any ideas??

Flamesrule Oct 6, 2010 7:45 PM

Bridges is a must I think.

Tolbert Oct 6, 2010 8:12 PM

Arent those streets somewhat narrow ?

Looks like if you scaled down the map by 50% ?

Innsertnamehere Oct 6, 2010 8:32 PM

you also got rid of an area that i thought was the best part of that map..

Flamesrule Oct 6, 2010 8:52 PM

Guys, he isn't finished yet and he is trying the best he can.

Oh and Tolbert whats the next competion you will pick?

Besides I think it looks great.

Mocholate Oct 7, 2010 2:21 AM

Indeed, it's not finished yet. Sorry i should have shed more light on what i have done so far - The grid just serves as a template for creating the terrain at this stage, in the end it will represent what's on the original plan.

As far as the scaling down it's more like 25% but i agree I went a bit too far. I'll work on that tonight and repost pics to see what y'all think.

I'll also bring back some of the 'best parts' later once the right scale is acheived.

Ok, sound good :)

I think first we should make a city name/location poll as Mo said. Afterwards we can make the next competition. This way Mo will have enough time to finish the grid.

YingBlanc Oct 7, 2010 2:17 PM

are my buildings included in the city as well?

Flamesrule Oct 7, 2010 7:15 PM

Probably the last design, but I don't think the first or second one.(Mo hasn't said anyhting about those. He'll see all the buildings that have been enrtred after he finsihes the map.

Aleks Oct 8, 2010 12:56 AM

i think we can have a city name AND sketchup comp at the same time.

The names are just easy. Send me a PM and I'll start a new thread with all the entries.

A new sketchup comp can happen at the same time.

Tolbert Oct 8, 2010 7:43 AM

as all my ideas for the next competition are related to the city, and need a finished grid, i think someone else should do the next one. I myself wont have the time to figure out a competition until the end of next week.

Aleks Oct 9, 2010 8:09 PM

okay, we'll wait on your comp.

the next runner-up is Flamesrule. We'll get a new comp from him soon.

PS: Send me city names via PM. You can enter as many as you want and we'll vote on it in a week or so. But please send ALL your names in a SINGLE private message. It's kinda hard going through messages looking for each entry.

Mocholate Oct 12, 2010 7:47 AM

Fuckety fuck i fucked the fucking fucker up by doing something stupid - Have to start again!

oh and FUCK !

Tolbert that looks great, Is it where we go to drown our sorrows when we make a boob like i did?

Tolbert Oct 12, 2010 12:09 PM

What happened ???

If you screwed the grid up, i still have my layout in Sketchup. So just say if you need it.

Yes, exactely! This will be part of my first contribution to the city. The place to get drunk after a hard day of work ;)

Mocholate Oct 13, 2010 7:38 AM

It's cool, I was able to salvage the layout from the wreckage.

Aleks do you have any entries for the name comp as yet?

Mocholate Oct 13, 2010 8:04 AM

This could be fun, and maybe interesting for some?-

Developing the terrain is really a tedious process which has potential to send someone friggin loopy ! To save that from happening to me i was wondering if anyone would be interested in helping out with it?

I've uploaded the map so far to 3D warehouse which includes the map and a picture of Tolberts plan beside it. All you need to do is use the 'move' tool and click on to an intersecting line > push the arrow up key > physically move the intersection upwards then type in the height you want to achieve with it.

The model is here - If you choose to accept this mission please let me know and we'll work out which parts to do.

Aleks Oct 13, 2010 5:12 PM

No names Mo!

Come on people! How can we have a competition without competitors? Send in as many names as you want but in a SINGLE pm!

Flamesrule Oct 13, 2010 9:04 PM

Hey aleks i sent you some names but some are kinda lame.

Tolbert Oct 14, 2010 4:24 AM

Ill send some over talter too

Aleks Oct 14, 2010 5:18 PM

got some names from 2 people already!

I'm entering some as well. Send me moarrr!

Innsertnamehere Oct 14, 2010 7:15 PM

did you get my name??? i didn't put a capital letter at the start of your name, so it might have sent it to someone else....

Aleks Oct 14, 2010 7:21 PM

Nope sorry! So far I only have Tolberts and Flamesrules.

Click on my name and look for the 'Send Private Message' link under Contact Info. That way it's all set up and no chances of sending it to no one (or someone else!).

BTW, I forgot to mention that the winner of this comp won't get to chose the next one. Having your name chosen as the "official SSP-City" is good enough! Right?

I think I'll start a poll on Sunday night or Monday morning so we can continue with the city.
