we really don't know what phase 2 of 113 E roosevelt will look like. it might end up being some kind of taller twin. or it may end up being completely different. best to leave it as a ghosted box for now.

and nice work rwl77!

Seriously? F**k you Chicago. And I say that with the utmost respect and jealousy.

I normally never curse on here, but this is fucking great news! Two U.S. super talls in the last two days for the glorious U.S..

The design is pretty good (preliminary or not), the South Loop is booming. May more towers come in the following weeks! :)

El Papa must of blessed us with his arrival.

They need to work on those balconies along the eastern face. I don't like how one row seemingly goes to the top of the third tier then terminates. Perhaps remove that line.

Thanks. I sort of figured the same best to leave it out. I expect the design for the second one will change.

With all these, as Vinoly said, "weird" looking designs, the south loop is going to look like a showcase for the modern day skyscraper from the parks perspective. Awesome!

emathias Sep 24, 2015 8:11 PM

Would 1326 S Michigan be visible from that angle, too?

What a fucking beast what a beautiful looking building. That cantilever on the south side is amazing. Can't wait for more renderings to come out.

The tower would have condos in its upper 60 stories, apartments on 21 floors and several amenity and lobby/retail floors. Parking would be in an 11-story rear extension of the tower, topped by a rooftop garden.

The exterior would be mostly clad in glass, with two vertical “zippers” running up the Michigan Avenue facade that contain inset, glass-railed balconies.
I have feeling that we're going to see a video rendering for this one.

I just saw this thread. FUCK YES!

Jahn is one of my favorites.

The Helmut has a bit of a reputation for being difficult to work with and we unfortunately don't see a lot of local commissions, but when he gets a chance man can he deliver. 50 West in NY is shaping up gorgeous. This will top that.

hunser Sep 24, 2015 11:15 PM

Yes, if 50 West is any indication of superb quality, this supertall could be a stunner. Glad that Chitown is back in the supertall game.

Holy Christ what happened? This is amazing. After all of those towers were planned and then crashed and burned in 2008 I didnt think something this a,aging would come around again. Let us hope another recession isn't on its way...

chris08876 Sep 25, 2015 3:32 AM

Don't jinx it. Shhh... I'd be a shame if this was the spire situation all over again. Let us bask in our skyscraper high for the meantime. As long as we can get steel in the ground, and this rising past the foundation, all is well. Hopefully since they are a Miami developer, and given the trend of developers in S.Florida of doing this, they will start sales really early, while this is still in the design stage. And I mean really early.

I assume this is the supertall cantilevered over a landmark that we've been hearing about for a couple of years, right?

I don't think we've been hearing about it for a couple of years. It was just a few months ago that it was announced Jahn would be designing something for the site and it hasn't been that long since the bankruptcy sale of land from the previous developer.

I don't think he means this site specifically, rather the mythical project that was cantilevered over a landmark that someone (lvdw?) had said they had knowledge of but never gave much in the way of details about.
