I am, probably not surprisingly, instinctually with Radulovich on this one - I think it would be a big disappointment to lose to car traffic what should be a pedestrian approach and space to the transit center. (sort of the southside counterpart to the (albeit dumbed-down) little plaza next to SF Tower, except better, since retail etc)
also: they just spent a bunch of money and effort re-making that little alley into a cozy walking-friendly passage, only to ruin it? I need to look at the exact plans to get a more thorough understanding of what will be where, but on the face of it, I don't like the idea of cars back there. |

Is this cleared to break ground? I know there was a zoning variance hearing on 2/12, but haven't seen anything since then.

^^The Planning Commission approved it but the decision is sure to be appealed to the BOS and with Democratic machine member Tom Radulovich objecting to certain aspects, no telling what the Board will do.

In March they were granted a permit for archeological exploration. It seems like that's what they are doing.

Yes, it sounds like there may yet be some hope for this one. At SF Planning's Project Applications page, there are a few renderings I haven't seen before. Alas, I've no luck with posting pics, maybe someone else will? Some of the renderings feature Oceanwide Center. My favorite is on page 50 of Plans - Set 1. Look under 542-550 Howard:

timbad is right. Almost all of those buildings will be demolished. You'd have to dig through the TJPA website and the EIR documents for the particulars, but it's because the track throat will be constructed via cut and cover.
It's sad to lose them. |
